Legion FC travels to Michigan to take on fellow Detroit City FC in the first ever meeting between the two clubs. Both sides enter the contest having won their prior match, with the hosts earning a 4-0 win on the road to Atlanta United 2 and the visitors collecting their first three points of the season in a 2-1 win against Hartford Athletic.
Birmingham earned its first league win of the season thanks to a stoppage time game winner from midfielder Anderson Asiedu. Asiedu joined forward Juan Agudelo on the scoresheet, contributing to a performance that will create momentum for the Three Sparks going forward. Head Coach Tommy Soehn has had five different players find the back of the net, a testament to the goalscoring quality that is present in all areas of the field. Legion FC will hope to build off its 2-1 victory and take another three points when it travels to Keyworth Stadium.
Detroit currently sits in fifth place in the East, boasting a 2-1-2 record to start their first ever season in the USLC. Forwards Antoine Hoppenot and Pato Botello Faz currently lead their side in scoring with two goals apiece, while defender Rhys Williams leads in assists with two. Williams, who also leads the team in chances created (10), has contributed to what has been a stout defensive start to the season for Detroit City, who have only allowed three goals in five matches, showcasing that they will be a difficult group to break down.
Le Rouge has gotten off to a hot start in their first USLC season, joining the league after a successful run in the National Independent Soccer Association. Looking to go on a run of their own, however, is a visiting Birmingham Legion FC side that will hope to build off its 2-1 win at the weekend and prevent DCFC fans from getting the smoke going.
Two BHM players make up this week’s UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine Injury Report – defender Freddy Kleemann is out (knee) and midfielder Matthew Corcoran is questionable (knee).
The match will be nationally broadcasted on ESPNDeportes, and will also be available to watch on ESPN+.
