Birmingham Legion FC take to the road for the first time in 2023 on Saturday, March 25 — taking on Hartford Athletic at Trinity Health Stadium at 1:00pm CT. Local fans can watch the Three Sparks on My68 or ESPN+.
Birmingham Legion FC kicked off its season with a 1-1 draw at home versus Pittsburgh in Week One and a 3-2 victory against Tulsa FC in Week Two. Standing in third place in the Eastern Conference Championship with four points, the Three Sparks face a new challenge in Week Three as they take to the road for the first time this season.
In its first two performances, Legion FC scored four goals and conceded three in an up-and-down attacking style that ties for the lead in the Eastern Conference in most goals scored. Largely playing on the counter-attack, Birmingham has been able to create lots of chances through the wing in Tyler Pasher and by feeding balls into the box to find forwards Juan Agudelo and Neco Brett, the latter of which scored his first goal of the season against Tulsa to bring Brett’s all-time leading score record to 27 goals for Birmingham.
Tyler Pasher opened his account for the Three Sparks in style last Saturday at Protective Stadium, scoring in the fourth minute of the match to give the Legionnaires an early lead and then scoring again in the 83rd minute to equalize. His second goal, a stunning solo effort that saw him dribble past four defenders before finding the bottom right corner of the net, saw him win Legion’s first ever USL Goal of the Week and made Sports Center’s Top Ten.

Hartford prepare for their first home match of the season after spending the first two weeks on the road. The Athletic lost against Monterey Bay in Week One 5-3 and then split points with Colorado Springs in Week Two 1-1. Although they sit in 11th place with only one point, Hartford ties with Legion in goals scored (5) and will be a tough challenge for the Three Sparks as both sides look for a win.
Hartford’s #7 Prince Saydee is a player Legion fans should keep an eye on during the match. The forward has two goals and one assist to his name in two matches played.
For this week’s UAB Medicine Injury Report, midfielder Mikey Lopez is the only person unable to play.
The squad’s next home match is set for Easter Sunday, April 9th, at 4:30pm CT. Gates open at 3:30pm and all fans are invited to join us for an Easter egg hunt in the stadium! Email tickets@bhmlegion.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
