Thanks to an emphatic 3-0 victory over Memphis Wednesday night, Legion FC has advanced to the fifth round of the USOC for the first time and will face a team from Major League Soccer! Tune in below to watch the draw live.
Legion FC, one of just two USL Championship teams left in the Open Cup, is in the Southeast Region with Nashville SC, Inter Miami, and Charlotte FC, all of Major League Soccer. The 1:00pm CT draw will determine which club Birmingham will face, and will determine the location of the match. While all Round of 16 matches will be played on either Tuesday, May 23rd or Wednesday, May 24th, the exact date and time will be confirmed in the coming days by US Soccer.
“Yeah, it means a lot for Birmingham,” said Legion FC forward Juan Agudelo, when asked about Legion FC reaching the Round of 16 for the first time. “[For] The club, the crest. It’s been an effective season of hard work to get to the next round. As you can tell, a bunch of the guys are pretty excited to see who we’ve got up next. Hopefully it’s a home game. As you can tell, the team is clicking offensively. We’re becoming a little sharper and it’s looking good. I’m really excited to see how far we can take this team and keep fighting with my brothers. As you can tell [as he holds out a busted lip], it’s going to be blood sweat and tears and that’s what it takes to be a champion.
“Myself, a couple of other guys, they’ve had opportunities and been denied from some MLS teams, so I think they’re gonna have a chip on their shoulder — I know I do a little bit — so I’m excited. I’m hoping we draw an MLS team.”
