Watch – My68 & ESPN+
Legion FC (2nd in USL Championship’s Eastern Conference) go on the road to take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds (6th in USLC East) on Saturday, May 13. The match will kick off at 6:00pm CT at Highmark Stadium and fans in Birmingham can tune in to watch the match live on My68 or ESPN+ and can follow @bhmlegion on Twitter for live match updates!
Legion come into the match off back-to-back losses in league play against The Miami FC and the Oakland Roots on April 30th and May 3rd. In each match, the Black & Gold conceded more than three goals, but the Club will be looking to build off its shutout of rivals Memphis 901 FC in the U.S. Open Cup on May 10, a game the Black & Gold dominated, winning 3-0.
Birmingham has fared well on the road in league play this season, earning nine out of a total 15 points in away games this season. The Legionnaires have one of the better away records in the league and will look for a win in Pittsburgh after having drawn against the Riverhounds in the 2023 season opener, 1-1 on March 11, thanks to a towering headed goal from center back Alex Crognale.
In terms of attacking threat, Legion possess the highest number of shots across the Championship (129) while being second across the league in goals (15). 2022 Team MVP Enzo Martinez has been crucial to its offensive success so far this season. The Uruguayan is currently in piping hot form, with six goal contributions (4 goals, two assists) in the last five matches. Forwards Juan Agudelo and Tyler Pasher both joined Martinez on the scoresheet the last time out versus Memphis and the attack is in good form.
Opponent Info:
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC: 2W – 2L – 5D / 10 Goals Scored – 9 Goals Allowed / 11 Points / 6th in USLC Eastern Conference
Hosts Pittsburgh have one win and one draw this season in their two previous USL contests at Highmark Stadium, and despite just earning two victories so far in USLC league play, sit tied for fourth in the East on 11 points. The Riverhounds are in the midst of a three-match home unbeaten streak (W2 D1 L0) dating to October 2022, and historically are a strong, organized team that is hard to breakdown at home.
Forward Albert Dikwa has been the standout player so far this season for the Hounds. The forward has scored seven goals in nine matches which is tied for the most in the USL Championship, and is the only player on the team this year with more than eight shots through nine games played, with 21. Midfielders Robbie Mertz and the USL’s all-time leading assister Kenardo Forbes pull the strings in the middle of the park and will look to spring Dikwa for goal scoring chances.
