The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery defender Mark Segbers and forward Nick Markanich were named to the league’s Week 20 Team of the Week.
Segbers and Markanich turned in crucial performances in the Battery’s 2-0 home victory over Miami on Friday.
Segbers had an effective shift at right-back on both sides of the ball. He assisted Markanich’s first goal with a perfect cross and contributed two chances created, six duels won, six recoveries and an 89% passing accuracy (64/72). This performance earned him a FotMob.com rating of 8.3.
Markanich scored a brace to power Charleston past Miami. The attacker scored almost right out of the gate in the second half with a perfect glancing touch on Segbers cross and then converted from the penalty spot four minutes later. Markanich set a new Battery single-season record for goals in the club’s USL Championship era. He now has sights on the single-season records for the Championship (25 goals) and the Battery (27 goals).
The two of Team of the Week selections bring the Battery’s 2024 total for the award to 20.
After a pair of away games in Week 21, Charleston are back at Patriots Point on Fri., Aug. 2, against Indy Eleven. Tickets are on sale now via SeatGeek.com, the club’s exclusive digital ticketing provider.
