March 19, 2021 (CHARLOTTE, N.C.) — The Charlotte Independence announced today that the Club has signed centre-back Kevin Riascos for the 2021 season. He will be added to Jacks’ roster pending league and federation approval.
“I am so happy to join the Independence,” said Riascos. “I’m so thankful for this opportunity and I come here with the vision of making history and achieving great things with this Club.”
Riascos joins the Independence after a spell with the Boyacá Patriots of Colombia’s Liga BetPlay Dimayor.
"We are so excited to have Kevin join us this season," said Charlotte Independence General Manager and Head Coach Mike Jeffries. "He arrives here with great experience playing against top talent in Colombia and will help us significantly in the things we are trying to accomplish."
The 25-year-old centre-back made his professional debut in 2014 with Llaneros FC of Colombia’s Categoría Primera B.
Riascos has spent time in the United States with FC Arizona (National Premier Soccer League) and Golden State Force (USL League Two).
Riascos also played on Uniautónoma, Barranquilla FC, and Jaguares de Córdoba Fútbol Club of Colombia’s Categoría Primera A and B.
"We see Kevin as an integral part of our back line," added Jeffries. "His defensive qualities will aid us in our ability to apply pressure all over the field. Offensively, Kevin will allow us the chance to connect passes out of the back and get our attack started."
Riascos joins Jake Areman, Brandt Bronico (on loan from Charlotte FC), Clay Dimick, Junior Etou, Enzo Martinez, Brandon Miller, Austin Pack, Marcelo Palomino (on loan from Houston Dynamo FC), Hugh Roberts, and Valentin Sabella (currently loaned to Cancun FC) on the list of players confirmed for the 2021 season, as the club continues to negotiate with additional players.
