Club to provide new experiences, family-friendly entertainment and a continued investment in community

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 1, 2022) – The Charlotte Independence are excited to welcome fans back to American Legion Memorial Stadium in less than a week with a keen focus on new experiences, family-friendly entertainment and a continued philanthropic investment in the Charlotte community. The 2022 lineup will include a series of fireworks shows, live music performances, halftime contests, custom kits and charitable coat/food drives to benefit local nonprofit organizations throughout the city.
“We listened to our fans’ survey feedback and in-person discussions,” explained Charlotte Independence President and COO, Tim Schuldt. “They loved the soccer and the new stadium last year, but they wanted us to deliver more entertainment value in addition to soccer, and we’re doing that in 2022! We also received very positive feedback about our commitment to the community last year, and this is another year where we will double down and invest time, talents and treasure to make Charlotte a better place to live through sports.”
Local DJ’s, Manny Lozano and Derek Garris, have the game day entertainment locked in and are ready to share their mix of eclectic, international, soccer inspired beats with fans as they enter through the stadium gates and browse the concourse during halftime. They will perform at both the Charlotte Independence USL League One and USL W League Games this season at American Legion Memorial Stadium.
In partnership with Smoothie King, the Jacks will showcase two halftime competitions to provide some fun for fans on the pitch. First is the Lil’ Jacks Horse Races, a speed race on inflatable horses where kids ages 5+ can choose their ride, saddle up and sprint to the finish. Second is the Shoot to Thrill halftime contest. During each Charlotte Independence home game, one (1) person will be given the opportunity to square up against the club’s Target Training Net. Make all five shots and win free season tickets along with other valuable prizes. All participants will receive a Smoothie King Gift Card. Details on how to sign up are coming soon.
The club will continue its commitment to serving the greater Charlotte region in 2022 by organizing food drives, coat drives, and a four-game toy drive which starts in August and runs through September, Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month, benefitting the kids at Novant Health Hemby Children’s Hospital. Fans who bring a toy to one of these designated games will be entered into a drawing to win a limited edition, autographed team scarf. In addition, the Jacks will unveil a series of custom kits inspired by specific themed nights and charitable causes throughout the season. The autographed jerseys will be available for purchase via an online auction.
Blue Cross of NC, one of the club’s newest sponsors, has partnered with the Jacks to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the Charlotte community and beyond during Latin Heritage Month. After the final whistle on Saturday, October 15, a special fireworks show will light up the sky and cap off what hopes to be a phenomenal USL League One Season.
