CHARLOTTE (July 8, 2020) – The Charlotte Independence continues its youth developmental success with the signing of defender and Charlotte Independence Soccer Club standout Dylan Mitchiner to an academy contract.  

Pending league and federation approval, the Independence Soccer Club academy product will be eligible for selection when the Independence returns to USL Championship action on Wednesday, July 22nd against Miami FC.

"I'm thrilled to be signing an academy contract with my hometown team," Mitchiner told https://sportsengine-staging.go-vip.net/charlotteindependence. "I’m excited to get the opportunity I have been given to better myself both on and off the field. Being around the older guys really makes you work and want to prove yourself to them and the staff. I'm ready to get to work."

Launched in 2019, Independence Soccer Club’s affiliation with the Charlotte Independence provides players a clear pathway to the highest level of professional soccer.

Mitchiner is one of four Independence Soccer Club players signed to an academy contract with the first team. A truly homegrown talent, Mitchiner has played for the Carolina Rapids since his youth and will be joining the Army West Point men's soccer program to continue his soccer career as a student-athlete.

“Dylan gives us a defensive presence and is another guy that can come in and play center back,” said Independence head coach Mike Jeffries. “He’s a solid, athletic, defensive player.”

CHARLOTTE (July 2, 2020) – On Thursday, the USL Championship unveiled the schedule for the remainder of the 2020 season, running from July 11 to October 4. The Charlotte Independence will compete in Group G alongside Eastern Conference clubs Birmingham Legion FC, Memphis 901 FC, and North Carolina FC, with the fixture dates being announced today.

The Jacks’ schedule for the remainder of the campaign will begin with an away clash against Memphis 901 FC on Saturday, July 25th.

The first Southern Derby of the season will be held at the Sportsplex at Matthews in August, meanwhile, and the second is set for the Sportsplex at Matthews in September.

Mike Jeffries’ side will face two teams outside of Group G. Miami FC in August and September in addition to the Charleston Battery in August at the Sportsplex at Matthews. This will be Miami FC’s first season competing in the USL Championship.

The Jacks will wrap up the campaign with a trip to North Carolina FC on Wednesday, September 30.

The 35 Championship’s clubs will be divided into eight regionalized groups and are set to play 263 games over 13 weeks to decide which 16 teams will advance to the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs, which will open in the second weekend of October.

Games completed prior to the season suspension in March will be counted and are included in the schedule.

The Independence played one match, a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City II on March 8, and are the only team in Group G with points to its name. The top two teams from each group in the regular season will advance to the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs, producing a field of 16 teams overall in a regionalized single-elimination bracket. Group winners will be paired with Group runners-up in the Round of 16, with home advantage being determined by record for the remainder of the bracket.

The Jacks' trip to Riccardo Silva Stadium to face Miami FC will now be played on Sunday, August 23rd at 7:30 p.m. and broadcast live on ESPN+. The match has been rescheduled due to the COVID-19 impact on the Miami market.‬

Due to the COVID-19 impact on the Charlotte area and in the best interest of our fans, the first Southern Derby of the season against North Carolina FC will now be played on Wednesday, August 26th at the Sportsplex at Matthews.

CHARLOTTE (June 26, 2020) – The Charlotte Independence will compete in Group G alongside Eastern Conference clubs Birmingham Legion FC, Memphis 901 FC and North Carolina FC for the remainder of the 2020 USL Championship season, the league announced today.

The Independence is aligned in one of four Eastern Conference groups that will battle for a place in the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs when the league returns to play on Saturday, July 11. As detailed in the Championship’s announcement of the updated season structure, each team in Group G will play its fellow group members four times during the regular season.

The regular season will see the 35 Championship’s clubs divided into eight regionalized groups, and each team will complete a 16-game regular season. There will be five groups made up of four teams, and three groups made up of five teams. A league schedule is pending for every team to complete a 16-game regular season.

The regular season games will be played over 13 weeks, concluding on the weekend of October 2-4. Games completed prior to the season suspension in March will be counted and included in the schedule.
