CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (October 20th, 2020) – The Chattanooga Red Wolves have picked up the sensational winger Marky Hernandez’ option for the 2021 season. Marky was the Week 7 Player of the Week and had two additional Team of the Week appearances, 4 goals (T-9), 4 assists (T-4), and an unforgettable style of play that would make any fan cheer.
Marky will be entering his second season with the club and would leave a tremendous impact every time he stepped onto the pitch in 2020. Hernandez only played in twelve of the fifteen available contests yet still managed to be highly ranked in the league for both goals and assists. Marky was more notably known for his late-game heroics whether that be the 88th minute equalizer at North Texas or the 93rd game-winner in Richmond late in the season. Marky has put on a show for the fans and will be gladly welcomed back for the 2021 season. President and General Manager Sean McDaniel says similar words in a postseason interview, “There really aren’t enough words to describe how exciting it is to watch Marky play. He’s a fan favorite and he never disappoints.”
Head Coach and Technical Director Jimmy Obelda scouted Marky with the anticipation that Marky would deliver great results for the club. “Marky was perhaps the most dynamic player in League One last season. A player that immediately changed the game every time he entered. To have him for 2021 gives us that ace that we can put on the table every time he steps on the pitch”, said Coach Obleda. Quite often Marky would step on to the pitch early in the second half and make a tangible difference in ten minutes which is one of the many attributes that lead the club to exercise his option.
Marky is a multifaceted player that will make a large contribution for next year’s squad. His charisma and abilities make it an easy choice to keep him for the 2021 roster. As he was once a part of the Core 4 in 2011, which included Ruiz, Hernandez, R. Pineda, and A. Pineda, the growing chemistry between Marky and Coach Obleda will continue to blossom into the upcoming season leaving fans to expect great things from the two of them.
