Detroit City Football Club Announces Five-Year Partnership with Passage as Official Ticketing Partner
DETROIT, MICHIGAN — Passage, a cutting-edge event ticketing company based in Detroit, and the Detroit City Football Club (DCFC), Detroit’s professional soccer team, announced today a new five-year partnership which names Passage as the Official Ticketing Provider of DCFC.
Passage has provided ticketing for DCFC’s previous three seasons. But the announcement marks a significant expansion into the world of professional sports. DCFC made a historic move in 2019 by joining the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA), a third-division professional league sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), as well as launching a women’s side in the United Women’s Soccer (UWS) league.
DCFC and NISA recently announced their Spring 2021 NISA slate, with the women’s season starting two weeks later. Supporters will be back in the stands at reduced capacities based on each club’s respective state guidelines.
“We’re very excited to be working with DCFC and to help grow the world’s largest sport right here in our hometown,” said Alex Linebrink, CEO of Passage. “Right from the start, DCFC has maintained an enthusiastic and loyal following. For us, it’s all about helping create a seamless experience for the fans, from the moment they buy their tickets until they enter the stadium.”
“We chose to partner with Passage because they’ve consistently delivered support above and beyond our expectations,” said Sean Mann, Co-Owner of DCFC. “Our fans count on us to deliver an excellent matchday experience, so it’s important to us to have partners who understand our vision and care as much about our fans’ experiences as we do.”
In March 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sporting events around the world, the Passage team started working on solutions to help teams reopen safely. One of the first features Passage introduced was Social Distance Seat Selection.
“Social Distance Seat Selection allows venues like Keyworth Stadium to designate a given number of seats, rows, or aisle space which must be left open in between guest parties” said Linebrink. “This will provide fans with peace of mind when selecting their seats, and help ensure that a minimum six-foot distance can be kept between unfamiliar parties.”
Virtual Events and Virtual Queuing are also new to the Passage platform in response to COVID-19.
The partnership with DCFC is one of several professional sports alliances Passage announced over the past two years. Passage is also the official ticketing provider of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), United Women’s Soccer (UWS), USL League Two, and the only ticketing partner to work with SportsEngine, part of the NBC Sports Group family.
“Partnering with Passage means we don’t have to worry about ticketing and payments,” said Mann. “We can focus on building an exceptional team and providing fans with a safe and fun matchday experience.”
“We’re excited to be part of this big step forward for Detroit sports,” said Linebrink.
Season passes for the DCFC 2021 season are currently sold out. Single game tickets will be available beginning Thursday, April 22, 2021 at tickets.https://sportsengine-staging.go-vip.net/detcityfc.
The DCFC men’s team opener will be held at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, May 1, with an evening matchup against the Maryland Bobcats FC who are entering their first season in the league. The DCFC women’s teams starts at home at Keyworth on Saturday May 15.
Passage is a ticketing and payments for events and attractions. Passage Sports combines the power of the Passage ticketing platform with features built specifically for the needs of sports teams and leagues. The all-in-one mobile box office technology allows owners and managers to take control of all their ticket, merchandise, and concession sales both online and at-the-door, all while reaching more fans and making more money.
Since 2014, Passage has completed millions of dollars in ticket and product sales for thousands of events around the world. For more information about Passage, please visit gopassage.com or contact CEO Alex Linebrink at alex@gopassage.com.
Founded in 2012, Detroit City FC has established itself as one of the most talked about soccer teams in North America. Our club motto, Passion for Our City, Passion for the Game, evokes the three ideas the grassroots organization was built upon: to satisfy the demand for soccer in downtown Detroit, represent the city in a positive light, and build community through “the beautiful game.”
In an era when sports teams are defined by billionaire owners and millionaire players, we are a team founded by a group of young Detroiters. Detroit City FC has developed into a minor league soccer success story, with one of the most exciting match atmospheres in North America, consistently sold-out games and passionate supporters.
The seed of DCFC was planted in 2010, on the soccer pitch at Belle Isle in downtown Detroit. That grass – the very same that was transported from the Pontiac Silverdome after the 1994 World Cup – was the original home of the Detroit City Futbol League (DCFL), a co-ed, recreational league that pitted players from teams representing the many historic neighborhoods of Detroit.
Founded as a community organizing endeavor aiming to bring city residents together, the league was wildly successful, quickly drawing over 1000 players a week to the games and after parties at bars across the city. Inspired by the success, DCFL founder Sean Mann pitched four friends an idea to further tap into the growing interest in the sport by founding a minor league soccer team to play in downtown Detroit.

Detroit City FC Opens 2021 NISA Season With 0-0 Draw
CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee – Detroit City FC opened up the 2021 campaign on a balmy 80-degree evening at Finley Stadium.
The long off-season finally came to an end as the California United Strikers FC and Le Rouge shook off the rust and made the initial strides towards the NISA Legends Cup hardware. Le Rouge took the initiative early, a clear signal that despite having already clinched a trip to the Finals in July, the squad would not be making a holiday of their time in Tennessee.
Employing a familiar foundation of 3 center defensemen flanked by 2 attack-minded wings that clearly put United on their heels, DCFC struck first, with an opportunistic attack by midfielder #11 Connor Rutz nearly opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. A second near-miss from forward #6 Max Todd saw the pitch tilted ever further in favor of the Rouge and Gold.
Detroit City remained in control throughout the first half, with the Californians making waves on occasion, each time held off by eventual Google Fi Man of the Match goalkeeper #1 Nate Steinwascher, solid in the opening 45, and even better in the second half, including an acrobatic denial of a close-range effort that sealed the draw.
Coach James’ team grew nicely into the match and dictated the flow of the game for most of the second half. But despite the possession and multiple attacking chances, none of the efforts were able to fall in the net. Clearly tinkering with his lineup from kickoff to final whistle, James’ combinations came closest to striking gold after forward #20 Yazeed Matthews and midfielder #23 Pablo Cruz entered the match. Matthews relentless pursuit of an otherwise pedestrian pass shook enough rust from the Cal United goalkeeper to yield the ball, which, keeping with the theme of the night, spun precariously close to the goal line without ever crossing it. The match finished 0-0.
City’s next match will be Friday, April 16th at 12:00pm EST match against Stumptown Athletic.

2021 Season Ticket information

The start of the 2021 season is fast approaching, and we are brimming with excitement. It has been a year and a half since we were able to play in front of our supporters at Keyworth, and we appreciate your patience while we navigated how to do that safely. With updated orders from the governor's office, we have a plan in place and will be releasing our season tickets for sale over the next 10 days.
In order to fulfill our obligations and honor our supporters who bought into the future success of the club, we will be making the tickets available incrementally. Each group will continue to have access while new groups are added in, so tickets are likely to go quickly.
First, on Monday, March 29th, any owner who invested at a level that earned them a season ticket will receive a code for the ticket(s) owed. At the same time, any 2020 season ticket holder that is owed a credit will receive a code to redeem their 2021 season pass. This group includes everyone who explicitly requested a credit, as well as anyone who made no specific request for how to handle their previous year's pass.
Second, on Thursday, April 1st, any owner who converted their previous season ticket into a share will gain access to secure their spot in the stands. We are endlessly appreciative of those of you who went through this process to support the club while we couldn't host fans, and want to make sure you can be there in person with us, too.
Third, on Friday, April 2nd, all remaining owners will gain access to purchase their season ticket.
Finally, on Monday, April 5th, we will open up season ticket sales to the entire galaxy of supporters.
In accordance with the latest health and safety guidance, there will be some important and significant updates to the Keyworth experience. Please be aware of these changes before purchasing, and before attending an upcoming match.
- Keyworth will have assigned seating. In order to ensure proper and safe social distancing, the bench seating throughout the stadium will be assigned. The standing supporter section will remain general admission, but distancing will be enforced.
- Each section of the stadium will be assigned a specific gate to enter & exit, as well as staggered arrival times relative to kickoff. This is done to prevent bottlenecking at any particular gate, and to limit public interactions. There will also be safe exit instructions shared over the PA as the match nears its end.
- Ticket purchases will be limited to no more than 6 seats together in one pod. Comingling with other pods will be discouraged. Note: if you have a code or multiple codes, be prepared to make your total purchase of up to 6 tickets in one transaction to ensure adjacent seats.
- For proper contact tracing, each ticket will require a unique name and phone number entered during the purchase process. This information will not be shared, and our guests will only receive a call if mandated by safety protocol.
- All entrants will be required to wear a mask that fully covers their nose and mouth. Even with a valid ticket, if you are not wearing a mask, you will not be granted entry. No exceptions.
Thank you for your support and compliance with safe practices. We must work together to ensure the safety of our community, not only for the health of our neighbors, but in order to continue to gather together for our matches.
