Goalkeeper Carlos Herrera is preparing for his first season in Detroit. The 27-year-old spent the past two seasons with the USL Championship Western Conference side of Monterey Bay FC.
Herrera started nine matches across all competitions for Monterey Bay FC in 2024, eight of which came in the closing matches of the year. He kept three clean sheets for the season and two in back-to-back weeks in September. The 2024 season saw Herrera set his best professional career save percentage, posting an 81.4% save percentage. Herrera started 18 matches for the Western Conference side in the 2023 season and compiled an 8-7-3 record.
Herrera signed his first professional contract with Monterey Bay before the 2022 season. His first career start came in the club’s inaugural home opener, where he recorded his first professional clean sheet and the first-ever clean sheet in Monterey Bay history. Herrera played seven games in the 2022 season.
The San Leandro, California native played two years of college soccer at Texas A&M International for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. Over his collegiate career, Herrera would finish 16-10-5 in his two seasons, including ten clean sheets. Herrera would post a career-high 84.1% save percentage in the 2017 season.
