Defender Devon Amoo-Mensah is embarking on his fourth season with Le Rouge. Signing a new two-year contract late last season, Amoo-Mensah has solidified his future of being a mainstay in the Detroit backline alongside captain Stephen Carroll. Amoo-Mensah already has one Black Arrow MVP Award under his belt, claiming the award after a stellar 2023 season.
During the 2024 season, Amoo-Mensah played all 90 minutes in every match except the FC Tulsa match in August, when he was brought on as a halftime substitute. He also played a crucial role against Houston Dynamo FC in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, playing all 120 minutes and converting his penalty, which led Detroit to victory over the defending US Open Cup champions 10-9 on penalties.
Amoo-Mensah was forced to miss the first month of the 2023 season due to an injury sustained in 2022. However, after returning from his injury, Amoo-Mensah quickly became a key player in the Detroit City backline again. His remarkable performances down the stretch, including two goals in two games in September, contributed to Detroit’s first-ever USL Championship playoff victory against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, where Amoo-Mensah delivered an outstanding 90-minute clean sheet performance. With exceptional displays throughout the season, Amoo-Mensah was awarded the 2023 Black Arrow MVP Award.
The Naperville, Illinois native joined DCFC from the Michigan Stars as the club transitioned to the USL Championship in 2022, after spending two seasons with the National Independent Soccer Association side. Prior to that, Amoo-Mensah spent his youth career in the Chicago Fire system and Sockers FC Chicago. He was a two-time All-GLVC selection at Lewis University, where he made 73 appearances and scored eight goals over four years before spending 2019 in Sweden with Second Division side Älmeboda/Linneryd through Chicago-based Bridges FC and Sockers FC.
