Q: How many players will be selected for a team roster?
A: 18 maximum
Q: How many teams will be formed?
A: 6 teams. We will have a U14 (birth years 2012-13), U16 (birth years 2010-11), and U19 (birth years 2007-09) team for both boys and girls.
Q: How are rosters formed?
A: Recommended players will attend a Final Tryout on Sunday, November 30 where they will be evaluated by staff coaches, and invitations will be sent out the following week.
Q: Who is eligible to participate?
A: Any player with birth year 2007-2013 who currently plays for a Detroit City FC youth club (City, Downriver, Huron Valley, Genesee, North, South Oakland, or West).
Q: How can my player be selected for the Final Tryouts?
A: Detroit City FC Youth clubs will be hosting ID Center Events to assist with the decision-making in recommending players. You must register with your club’s ID Center Event and attend in order to be eligible for recommendation for Final Tryouts. ID Center Events are currently planned for the following dates, times, and locations:
South Oakland/Huron Valley: Saturday, November 9, 4pm-7 pm, 2SP Fieldhouse
Genesee/North: Saturday, November 15, 10am-12pm, SVSU Fieldhouse
City/Downriver: Sunday, November 16, 1pm-4pm, University Liggett School
Q: How will we know if my player is selected for the Final Tryouts?
A: Detroit City FC will send an email to players who have been selected to attend Final Tryouts by Friday, November 21st.
Q: When are final roster selections being made?
A: Teams will be selected by Friday, December 5th. Roster positions are offered FIRST. Alternate positions are offered SECOND. Wait list positions are notified THIRD.
Q: What is the training schedule?
A: Friday evenings beginning December 12th and ending February 6th. There will be no Training on Friday, December 26th.
Q: What is the competition?
A: All six teams will compete in the Disney President’s Day Soccer Tournament, which is being held the weekend of February 14-16 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
Q: Do families have to book their own travel?
A: Yes. For players who are selected to a team, families will be responsible for travel and lodging costs for the tournament weekend. Detroit City FC will work with the competition directors on discounted rates for hotels and will be happy to help facilitate shared transportation options for those who may need assistance.
Q: What is the cost to participate in the Academy Program?
A: The cost will be approximately $650, which includes 8 training sessions, a pre-tournament friendly against a local team, and the tournament in Florida. This price does not include the cost of transportation and lodging. The cost for alternates (players who participate in the training sessions and pre-tournament friendly but not the tournament) will be approximately $400.
