El Paso Locomotive FC Close Out Jägermeister Cup Play With 1-0 Win Over Union Omaha

PAPILLION, Nebraska (July 26, 2025) – In their final match of the USL Jägermeister Cup group stage, El Paso Locomotive FC held on for a 1-0 victory against Union Omaha on Saturday evening at Werner Park.

Locomotive controlled the first half for the most part and created several scoring chances early on. Los Locos finally broke through in the 39^th minute as Christian Sorto’s shot from the left side of the box found the post and then the chest of Beto Avila to make it 1-0 for the visitors.

El Paso were forced to defend for most of the second half as the hosts pushed for an equalizer. Sebastian Mora-Mora entered the match for Jahmali Waite in the 65^th minute and was able to preserve the club’s fifth shutout of the season.

Beto Avila scored his sixth goal across all competitions moving him into second for Locomotive this season behind Andy Cabrera (13).

El Paso Locomotive FC Drop Penalty Shootout Against Phoenix Rising FC

EL PASO, Texas (July 19, 2025) – In their final home game of the group stage of the USL Jägermeister Cup, El Paso Locomotive FC fell short in a penalty shootout against Phoenix Rising FC 2(7)-2(6) on Saturday night at Southwest University Park.

Locomotive fell behind early on an own goal from Kofi Twumasi in the sixth minute but responded quickly as Gabi Torres rocketed home an equalizer in the 11^th minute for his second goal against his former club this season. Andy Cabrera would return to his scoring ways before halftime as Torres found him near the penalty spot on a cross to put Los Locos ahead 2-1.

El Paso outshot Phoenix 10-5 in the second half and controlled more possession but could not find a third goal to widen their lead. A rebound from a free kick saw the visitors tie the match and ultimately go on to win in penalty kicks.

Gabi Torres recorded his seventh assist across all competitions, good for the team lead.
Andy Cabrera scored his 13^th goal across all competitions this season. He is currently three goals shy of the single season club record of 16 set by Luis Solignac in 2022.

El Paso Locomotive FC Fall Short Against Sacramento Republic FC

SACRAMENTO, California (July 12, 2025) – El Paso Locomotive FC fell 3-0 on the road to Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday night at Heart Health Park.

Locomotive controlled 57 percent of possession in the first half but could only turn that into two shots as the hosts created the majority of scoring chances in the half. They ultimately broke through in the 44^th minute as El Paso found themselves trailing by one at the break.

Los Locos created pressure coming out of the locker room with Andy Cabrera and Eric Calvillo each threatening with key chances of their own. The hosts would score a pair of late goals, however, and hold on as Locomotive suffered their second straight defeat.

EL PASO, Texas (July 4, 2025) – In the highest attended home match in club history, El Paso Locomotive FC lost a heartbreaker in 2-1 fashion against San Antonio FC on Friday night at Southwest University Park.

Locomotive were forced to defend early and ultimately let a goal slip by in the 11^th minute after a giveaway in the back. El Paso created a few good chances on the counter and held 57 percent of possession but still trailed at the break.

Los Locos took control early in the second half with Amando Moreno following up a deflected shot from Frank Daroma to even the match up. An unmarked player after a cleared ball on a set piece, however, was enough for the visitors to walk away with three points.

Today’s match at Southwest University Park was the most attended home match in club history surpassing a July 1, 2023 clash against New Mexico United.

El Paso Locomotive FC Gets Back on Track With 2-1 Win Over Monterey Bay FC

SEASIDE, California (June 21, 2025) – El Paso Locomotive FC moved into second place in the Western Conference with a resilient 2-1 road victory over Monterey Bay FC in a USL Championship clash on Saturday night at Cardinale Stadium.

Gabi Torres set up Wahab Ackwei on an early cross for his second goal of the season before Andy Cabrera turned in Locomotive’s first penalty opportunity of the year to double the lead in the second half. Despite a strong push from the hosts, Locomotive remained undefeated when they lead at halftime (4W-0L-2D).

Locomotive created the majority of attacking chances early in the match and hit paydirt with Gabi Torres finding the head of Wahab Ackwei in the 15^th minute to put El Paso in front. Seven interceptions from the backline helped to preserve the lead through the opening 45 minutes.

The hosts came out pressing in the second half, but Andy Cabrera was able to earn the first Locomotive penalty of the season which he converted in the 56^th minute. Monterey Bay responded four minutes later and threatened for an equalizer, but five saves from Sebastian Mora-Mora, including a match saver in the final minute of the match, secured three points for Los Locos.

EL PASO, Texas (June 14, 2025) – El Paso Locomotive FC suffered their first home league defeat in 2025 in a 3-0 loss against Orange County SC in a USL Championship clash at Southwestern University Park.

El Paso doubled Orange County up in shots and held 58 percent of possession in the first half, but three goals in the final ten minutes from the visitors rendered those stats useless. The second half saw Locomotive unload 15 shots, but only three were on target as the score remained unchanged.

OAKLAND, California (June 7, 2025) – El Paso Locomotive FC managed a 0-0 draw on the road against Oakland Roots SC on Saturday night to extend their league unbeaten streak to six matches.

The Roots’ best chance of the match came off a cross in the third minute, but Sebastian Mora-Mora was in the right place to make a crucial save. Despite controlling 57 percent of the possession, El Paso could not find the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.

El Paso Locomotive FC Drop USL Jägermeister Cup Match Against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC

EL PASO, Texas (May 31, 2025) – El Paso Locomotive FC suffered their first home defeat in 2025 in a 1-0 loss against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in a USL Jägermeister Cup clash at Southwestern University Park.

It was a makeover for Locomotive with tonight’s squad featuring ten changes in the starting eleven from the side that took down Las Vegas last weekend. Raul Vazquez made his first professional start in this match while Frank Lopez also started his first match for Locomotive.

Both teams traded possession in the first half with neither side generating much in the final third. A worldie from Colorado Springs, however, put the visitors up 1-0 at the break.

Locomotive created the majority of chances in the second half outshooting the Switchbacks 9-4 in the final 45 minutes. Despite some attacking-minded substitutions, Los Locos were unable to find a late equalizer.

Brace from Andy Cabrera Pushes El Paso Locomotive FC Past Las Vegas Lights FC

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (May 24, 2025) – Andy Cabrera continued his scoring ways bagging a pair of goals to lead El Paso Locomotive FC to a 2-1 road win over Las Vegas Lights FC on Saturday night at Cashman Field.

Cabrera pushed his monthly total to six goals and his league total to nine as he carried on his recent offensive prowess. Frank Daroma and Beto Avila each chipped in their assists in league play this season which creates a four-way tie atop the Locomotive leaderboard.

After an early missed chance from Locomotive, the hosts capitalized quickly to take the lead seven minutes into the contest. This would be their only shot of the first half, however, as Los Locos held nearly 72 percent of possession for the rest of the frame. This resulted in Daroma finding the head of Cabrera who scored his eighth goal of the season to level things at one before the break.

The attacking chances evened up a bit in the second half with Locomotive outshooting the Lights 10-8. The away team’s chances proved to be more fruitful though as Cabrera found the back of the net for a second time on a feed from Beto Avila to put El Paso in front. Los Locos were then able to stave off the Vegas attack with help from one of the goal posts and see out the road victory.

El Paso Locomotive FC Continues Home Dominance with 3-1 Victory Over Indy Eleven

EL PASO, Texas (May 16, 2025) – In a matchup between the tallest and shortest teams in the USL Championship, the little guys prevailed as El Paso Locomotive FC knocked off Indy Eleven 3-1 on Friday night at Southwest University Park.

Amando Moreno got back on the scoresheet for Los Locos early on with Eric Calvillo and Frank Daroma each finding the back of the net off passes from Andy Cabrera. This win extends Locomotive’s unbeaten streak at home to start 2025 to six matches.

“Last year, we struggled a lot, but the fans kept showing up and showing out,” goalkeeper Jahmali Waite said. “This season, I think we owed it to the fans to put up performances like this at home. Hopefully, we keep doing that, and they keep coming out and support. We don’t do what we do without them.”

It was all Locomotive in the first half as the hosts controlled 65 percent of possession. Off an early Indy corner, Moreno hit the jets on a solo counter attack and beat the keeper in the 13^th minute. Cabrera then found Eric Calvillo on a cross in the 32^nd minute to double the lead.

Indy Eleven pushed to cut into their deficit in the second half outshooting Locomotive 12-3, but the El Paso back line stood tall with Jahmali Waite also providing some key saves. Daroma then joined the party finishing off a feed from Cabrera in the 82^nd minute to seal the deal.

“We played with a great mentality from the start,” head coach Wilmer Cabrera said. “We finished with three quality goals with good movement and possession. I’m proud for the players, and at least for 24 hours, we’re in first place in the Western Conference.”
