Match Preview: FC Tulsa vs. Sporting Kansas City II | Presented by Williams

TULSA – Sometimes all you need is a little taste of home.
After a long road trip that ended with three straight losses, FC Tulsa will enjoy home field advantage at ONEOK Field this Wednesday night against Sporting Kansas City II, presented by Williams. With two out of the four meetings this season having been played, FC Tulsa will be counting on taking control of the season series and getting back in the win column.
FC Tulsa opened the 2021 season on May 1 with a 2-0 win over Sporting Kansas City II at ONEOK. A month later, SKC got that result back with a 4-1 win in Kansas City, a match that saw seven players from the MLS squad in the starting lineup.

SCOUTING SPORTING KANSAS CITY II
Since the second meeting between the two squads, Sporting Kansas City II has only played one match, a 2-2 result against Atlanta United 2. With Sporting Kansas City being a MLS second team and players moving up and down every week, the lineup that will start the match on Wednesday is unpredictable.
The squad’s top scorer is Enoch Meshagalusa with two goals in eight matches, while Ropapa Mensah leads in the assists category, having notched two in eight matches as well. Three different goalkeepers have made at least two appearances for Sporting Kansas City II. John Pulskamp is the only one with a clean sheet to his name, while Kendall McIntosh has played four games with eight goals conceded.

FC Tulsa Announces Co-Branded Beer with Cabin Boys Brewery

TULSA – FC Tulsa is getting drafted.
The club is teaming up with Cabin Boys Brewery in Tulsa to release a “cerveza-style” lager beer, making FC Tulsa the first sports team in the Tulsa area with a co-branded beer by a local brewery.
“Our slogan at Cabin Boys Brewery is 'Crafted for Community,' and one of the ways we uphold that philosophy is through building relationships with local partners,” said Lisa McIlroy, founder and art director of Cabin Boys Brewery. “We are so excited to collaborate and create the official co-branded beer for FC Tulsa, and hope it helps strengthen community, team spirit, and the love of local craft beer in our city.”
Featuring a golden color with a light, refreshing taste, the yet-to-be-named craft beer has notes of tortilla and citrus, while finishing crisp. The brew will sit at 4.4% ABV and should make for an easy drinker at FC Tulsa home matches at ONEOK Field. Fans will be able to purchase the beer at FC Tulsa home matches, starting with this Wednesday’s match against Sporting Kansas City II. The lager will also be available starting on Wednesday at Cabin Boys Brewery in the Pearl District.
“You know you have made it as a sports team when you have a custom beer alongside a great local brewery like Cabin Boys,” said James Cannon. “We can’t wait for our fans to get their first taste on Wednesday night. Let it flow.”
What will the name of the beer be? That’ll be up to the FC Tulsa fans. Through a form on the team’s website, fans can submit their best ideas of names for the lager from now until Sunday, June 20. The best of the name submissions will then be placed into a final voting round that will be exclusive to just FC Tulsa Season Ticket Members.
To submit a name for the FC Tulsa beer, fill out this form. Fans must be 21 or older to enter.
Tickets are still available to Wednesday night's match at ONEOKField. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. CT.

FC Tulsa Unveils "Mural Kit" as Third Jersey
TULSA – Art and sport together again in Tulsa.
FC Tulsa has officially launched a third jersey, named the Mural Kit, designed from the club’s Mural Project at Monroe Demonstration Academy in North Tulsa. FC Tulsa has spent the last six months working with Tulsa Arts Alliance, local artists and school administrators to bring to life four murals designed by students at Monroe that represent the school’s four core values for its students – Empowerment, Responsibility, Community and Excellence. The club has incorporated design elements the students used in each of these four murals into its Mural Kit to inspire those who wear it to spread these values.

In addition to honoring the students at Monroe through their unique design of the Mural Kit, FC Tulsa has placed its Greenwood Ave. patch on the front of the jersey, opposite of the club crest. FC Tulsa has been heavily invested in educating and amplifying the message of the past, present and future of Greenwood. The values represented on the Murals at Monroe of Empowerment, Responsibility, Community and Excellence are the same ones that made Greenwood the thriving community it was 100 years ago, and the same community it can be again.

Not only will FC Tulsa continue donating the full proceeds of the sales from the Greenwood Ave. patch on the Mural Kit to help fund the Black Wall Street Memorial through the Terence Crutcher Foundation, but the club will also donate a portion of the proceeds from the jersey itself back to Monroe Demonstration Academy and its students who made this jersey possible. The club has set up a fund for Monroe through the Tulsa Community Foundation, one of the largest community foundations in the U.S.

While the jersey was announced to the public on Friday morning, FC Tulsa unveiled the Mural Kit on Thursday night at Tulsa Public Schools' Employee Appreciation Night at The Gathering Place. With the inspiration of the jersey coming from a local school, FC Tulsa wanted the Tulsa Public Schools teachers, administrators and staff to be the first ones to see and purchase the Mural Kit.
The club will debut the Mural Kit on the pitch on Juneteenth (Saturday, June 19) against Louisville City FC at ONEOK Field and the jersey is available now at the Team Shop at 1155 S. Elgin Ave. in downtown Tulsa or at the OnlineShop here.

James Cannon, FC Tulsa president
“This entire project has been such a team effort, from the funding provided by the Zarrow Family Foundation to four local artists who made these murals come to life. FC Tulsa absolutely embodies these four core values of Empowerment, Community, Excellence and Responsibility. To have the opportunity to showcase those values through art on our jerseys on Juneteenth is one of the coolest of my professional career.”
Todd Cunningham, Executive Director of Arts Alliance Tulsa
“It continues to be an honor to serve as a partner with Monroe Demonstration Academy, FC Tulsa, Zarrow Family Foundations and the entire collaborative team of artists, youth, community and staff to create and watch this mural project come to life. When we work together, we can accomplish so much, and this endeavor has illustrated that time and again. Arts Alliance Tulsa is grateful for the opportunity to participate and to all of those involved who have made it possible.”
Robert Kaiser, Principal at Monroe Demonstration Academy
“We are thankful for our collective partnership with the Henry and Anne Zarrow Foundation, Arts Alliance Tulsa, and FC Tulsa, as well as with our amazing students, families, and community members. Our students and families led this project alongside such talented artists and truly brought life, color, inclusion, acceptance, excellence, and community to the walls of Monroe. As the principal of Monroe, I am so thankful to have had a backseat in watching these ideas, thoughts, and imagery come to life. I want to say thank you to FC Tulsa for providing a platform to nationally showcase our murals on their jerseys. Our Monroe scholars, families, and community deserve to be recognized on a national stage and I am so proud of all of them.”
Dr. Tiffany Crutcher, Founder of the Terence Crutcher Foundation
“It’s important to continue to lift Greenwood up, because we are still fighting for repair, respect, and restitution. Our ancestors built a thriving community, and it is important that we extend tradition and educate our children that they come from greatness. Our stories and our people won’t be forgotten.”

L39ION of Los Angeles to Wear FC Tulsa's Greenwood Patch on Cycling Uniforms

TULSA – One of the top competitive road cycling teams in the nation will carry a piece of FC Tulsa and Greenwood throughout Tulsa Tough this weekend. L39ION of Los Angeles, who is managed by one of the sport’s top riders in Justin Williams, will wear FC Tulsa’s Greenwood Ave. patch on their L39ION race uniforms.
"One hundred years after the tragedy of Black Wall Street, we are blessed with the opportunity to represent the idea of black ownership," said Justin Williams. "L39ION of Los Angeles is a symbol of the vision O.W. Gurley & J.B. Stradford had when helping to build the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma. This year we are blessed with the opportunity to wear a Greenwood patch on our race jerseys at Tulsa Tough; our intentions are to honor those who lost their lives for picking themselves up from nothing with all odds stacked against them."
One of the only minority racers in professional cycling, Williams is the defending U.S. Criterium National Champion and has won 11 National Championships in his illustrious career. He, alongside his brother Cory, formed L39ION of Los Angeles wanting to help diversify the sport and uses his team to help mentor up and coming Black and Hispanic cyclists.
"When we think about Tulsa, we think about what could have been – a community full of opportunities for minorities that was uprooted by hate and ignorance." said Cory Williams. "I'm proud that L39ION can elevate and support Greenwood Ave. in its quest to help Black Wall Street thrive again."
After hearing about FC Tulsa’s Greenwood patch initiative which raises Black entrepreneurs and celebrates the past, present and future of Greenwood, Williams and L39ION of Los Angeles immediately purchased 20 patches. Not only will L39ION wear the patches this weekend at Tulsa Tough, but Williams and his team will feature them throughout the 2021 cycling season.
"When we heard that Justin and his team were interested in helping spread our message about Greenwood, we couldn’t have been more honored," said FC Tulsa president James Cannon. "Educating our city and country about Greenwood is a cause very near to our hearts. With L39ION of Los Angeles track record and experience, we have no doubt that the Greenwood patch will be on the podium several times this weekend."
FC Tulsa is a Presenting Sponsor of Tulsa Tough which begins Friday night and goes throughout the weekend. L39ION of Los Angeles’ men’s and women’s teams will compete in all three days of races including Saturday’s Tulsa Arts District Criterium, presented by FC Tulsa.
