TULSA – A Tulsa legend has hung up his boots. Former Tulsa Roughnecks FC Captain and USL Championship journeyman Cyprian Hedrick has retired from professional soccer at the age of 31. The defender announced on Facebook Wednesday morning that after nearly a decade at the professional level, he was retiring.

Hedrick played every minute he was available for selection for the Roughnecks in the 2019 season as captain of the squad. Hedrick was a USL icon, playing for four different USL Championship clubs in his eight seasons in the league. He ranks 11th all-time with 13,909 minutes in the regular season and 19th all-time in league appearances with 169.

Hedrick posted on Facebook saying:
“All good things must eventually come to an end, so after almost a decade of playing this amazing game I feel this is the right time to hang them up.

I want to thank God for blessing me with a gift and allowing a little kid from Cameroon to live out his childhood dream.

I want to thank my wife Kelsey for holding it down and being our rock. Multiple cities, multiple kids, me having multiple injuries, packing up multiple U-Huals to move. it’s been a crazy ride and I’m blessed to have had you and our family to share every moment of that journey with.

To my agent David, thank you for your belief and your hard work. Thank you for all the advice and guidance along the way I’m grateful for your wisdom and friendship.

To all of the fans, staff, front offices, coaches, teammates, grounds crew, and team chaplains, I want to say thank you for helping me create memories I’ll never forget. With 2020 being the 25th MLS season, the league will announce The 25 Greatest players from a list of 134 finalists unveiled on Friday morning.  A special panel of more than 200 MLS experts will vote on the 25 players who have achieved the most on the field, drove the narrative off the field and helped lay the foundation or set the course going forward. The panel will include experts from across North America of MLS greats & emeritus (former players, coaches, staff), current MLS club staff, media members and broadcast partners (local and national). MLS invited panelists based on years of experience within MLS, geographic balance, and game expertise.

Ricketts is one of 17 goalkeepers named as finalists alongside other MLS greats Brad Friedel, Tim Howard, Kasey Keller and Nick Rimando, to name a few.

In his seven seasons as an MLS backstop, Ricketts made 200 appearances in the league, keeping 62 clean sheets. His 31.0% clean sheet rate is the best in MLS history for any keeper who has made 200 or more appearances.

While some teams may distribute standard issue “trophies” to its end of season award winners, we at FC Tulsa know there are only one kind of awards that could possibly be acceptable following the 2020 season. 2020 Offensive Player of the Year – DARIO SUAREZ

His September performance earned the Cuban dynamo two Team of the Week honors, two Player of the Week runner-ups and a nomination for Player of the Month.

Looking at his place in franchise history, Suárez’s 0.60 Goals per 90 minutes of action is the best of any player in Tulsa USL Championship history (min. of 5 matches played). When you add on his one assist to his eight goals, Suárez had a hand in 43% of the goals FC Tulsa this season.

This might not be Suárez’s only end of year honor, as his season could be good enough to earn him a spot on a USL Championship All-League team.

2020 Defensive Player of the Year – BRADLEY BOURGEOIS

One underrated aspect of Bourgeois’ season was his position change two-thirds of the way through. Due to injuries and circumstance, Bourgeois shifted to right back from his natural centerback for the final month of the season, a position he had previously only played in two matches in his five-year professional career. The athletic defender didn’t miss a beat on the right side after his move, giving the team much-needed cover at the position.

It never hurts to add a little offense on occasion, and Bourgeois did that, chipping in with his third career assist and also converting a penalty kick in the club’s postseason defeat.
