Forward Madison welcomes Minneapolis City SC to Breese Stevens Field on Tuesday, September 7 for a friendly border-battle! Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday. This will be Forward Madison’s 3rd friendly of the season, having previously hosted Mexican Club Atletico Morelia and the UW-Madison Men’s soccer team. 

The Flamingos return home for their first game action in almost two weeks as their last match against Richmond Kickers was postponed due to weather. In their last match, the Flamingos were shut out on the road at North Carolina FC, suffering just their fourth loss of the season. North Carolina struck early in the game, scoring the match’s only goal in the eighth minute when defender Nelson Martinez launched a shot into the back of the net. Forward failed to convert any of their chances for the rest of the game and lost 1-0.

Forward Madison currently owns a 5-4-9 record after 18 games, good enough for 24 points and eleventh place standing in the USL League One table. They sit just one point behind the third-place squad in the standings, meaning a playoff spot is very much in reach for the Flamingos. 

Minneapolis City SC plays in the National Premier Soccer League, a league comprising over 90 teams that is commonly recognized as a 4th-tier league on the US soccer pyramid, although the league does not have any official designation by U.S. Soccer. Minneapolis City joined the league in 2017 and has finished in first place in their division every season except their first. 

Minneapolis City SC wrapped up its summer season in July as they finished with an 11-1 record, good enough for 33 points and a first-place finish in the North Conference Division of the NSPL. They qualified for the playoffs but fell short of their championship aspirations as they lost in the second round to Cleveland SC. 

Following Tuesday’s match, the Flamingos will stay at home to play Richmond Kickers team on Saturday, September 11 at Breese Stevens Field in Madison. Kickoff for that game is currently set for 7:00 PM CT.

USL League One announced today that the game between the Richmond Kickers and Forward Madison FC, originally scheduled for September 1 at City Stadium in Richmond, Va., has been postponed until October 6.

The decision to postpone the match was made due to the anticipated impact of severe weather in the Richmond area as a result of Hurricane Ida.

The next game for both clubs is against each other, as Richmond will travel to Madison for a meeting at Breese Stevens Field on September 11.

Forward Madison launched its newest kit Saturday, the Friends With Benefits Kit, through a simultaneous launch in London and Madison. The kit features a checkered design with team colors fading in and out and a QR code on the back that, when scanned, allows the individual to purchase a beer for a fan at Breese Stevens Field. The overall premise of the kit is to connect the global soccer community through kits and beer.

Cassidy Sepnieski, Forward Madison’s Art Director, explains that the ideation of this kit had no boundaries.

“This one [kit] felt like it didn’t have any rules…no expectations, just a free open space to explore and do something weird. It evolved into a whole bigger idea and connects things that we wanted to do from the start,” Sepnieski said. “It feels freeing and fun, I can’t wait to see the ripple effect it has.”

Custom “Beer Boards” will be hung at the primary beer stand at Breese Stevens Field, the Cross Bar. These boards will be populated with slips from beer purchases made through the QR code on the kit. When a fan at a Forward Madison match purchases a beer, they can redeem a second (complementary) beer via a beer slip off the board. Each slip will contain the name, location, and social handles of the purchaser so that wherever they are in the world, the fan who received the beer can reach out to thank them and connect with a new friend over beer and the beautiful game.

For the London piece of the launch, Forward Madison teamed up with Classic Football Shirts to welcome several big names in the kit industry to have a first-look at the groundbreaking new top. This event was also simulcast to a home crowd gathered at Breese Stevens Field, where fans had the opportunity to connect with attendees of the London event. FMFC wanted to get the beer-buying process started, so the club purchased beer for attendees of both the London and Madison events.

The Friends with Benefits Kit is Forward Madison’s latest endeavor in a prodigious line of alternate jerseys that includes the ‘World Kit of the Year’ in 2019, the Drip Kit, a viral sensation in 2020, and their most recent fully-reversible Beach/Club Kit, a first in American soccer. 

“Experiencing first-hand people’s reactions to the kit and then their reaction to learning about the beer component has been something special,” Forward Madison FC Director of Digital Content, Evan Warwick said. “I can only imagine the worldwide friendships that will be made through what this kit brings.”

Forward Madison falls in shutout to North Carolina.

The Flamingos fail to capitalize on opportunities as they go scoreless in 1-0 loss to North Carolina FC.

Wednesday night proved disappointing for Forward Madison as the team lost 1-0 on the road to North Carolina FC. An early goal from North Carolina served as the game’s only score as the equalizing score eluded the Flamingos.

The action started early for the home team when defender Nelson Martinez launched a long-distance shot in the eighth minute that sailed just past the diving arms of Forward goalkeeper Phil Breno to put North Carolina up 1-0. 

Both teams would have chances to add to the score total throughout the rest of the game but failed to convert. Forward Madison had several decent chances throughout the rest of the game including a point-blank chance from Derek Gebhard, a rifle off the foot of Jake Keegan, and a one-timer from Justin Sukow, all of which could not find the back of the net.

Forward Madison dropped their fourth game of the season but did not move down in the playoff standings. They currently sit in ninth place, tied with 6 other teams who all have a point total of 24.

The Flamingos look to rebound next Wednesday, September 1st when they travel to Virginia to take on the Richmond Kickers. The kickoff for that game is currently scheduled for 5:30 PM Central.

Forward Madison fights to keep pace in a packed playoff race this Wednesday as they travel to face North Carolina FC. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT.

On Saturday, the Flamingos earned one point after a 1-1 draw against North Texas SC at Breese Stevens Field. Forward Madison jumped to an early lead when new forward Ryan Sierakowski sunk his first goal as a member of the Flamingos with a header in the 10th minute. Forward would hold that lead for most of the game until North Texas player Thibaut Jacquel scored on a free kick in stoppage time, tying the game at 1. The game would end in a 1-1 draw. 

With this draw, Forward Madison now sits in 9th place with 24 points in USL League One Standings.

As the League table stands, the Flamingos are one of the seven teams currently with 24 points. Forward will look to jump up in the standings against a North Carolina team that currently sits in last place in the USL League One standings with 12 points. 

North Carolina has dropped their last three matches after having won their previous three before that. While North Carolina finds itself last in both goals scored and shots this season, it hasn’t been all bad news for them this season as the team currently ranks fourth in passing accuracy and last in fouls conceded, meaning the Flamingos will have to play efficiently if they want to pick up three points on the road. 

These two teams last played each other on May 15 as Forward won 1-0 in Madison.

Following Wednesday’s match the Flamingos will stay on the road with an away match against Richmond Kickers on Wednesday, September 1. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CT. 

Forward Madison drew its match 1-1 against North Texas SC on Saturday at Breese Stevens Field. Newcomer Ryan Sierakowski started off the Flamingos’ night with a header in the box in the tenth minute. Seirakowski’s goal was assisted by left back Cyrus Rad with a cross. 

North Texas tried to equalize the game in the first half when the team was awarded a free kick in the 21st minute, but their efforts came up short thanks to Phil Breno. Breno blocked Gabriel Morais’ header that was creeping just under the bar after the free-kick. 

The Flamingos were able to hold possession for most of the second half, but North Texas earned a free kick in stoppage time where Thibaut Jacqual equalized the match with his right-footed shot to the bottom right corner directly from the free-kick. 

With this draw, Forward Madison maintains its eighth-place standing with 24 points in a very tight USL League One Table. 

Following Saturday’s draw, the Flamingos hit the road for an away match against North Carolina FC on Wednesday, August  25.

RYAN SIERAKOWSKI TO JOIN FORWARD MADISON ON LOAN FROM NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION II
Sierakowski set to join the Flamingos as they continue to push towards a playoff position

Forward Madison FC announced today that forward Ryan Sierakowski will be set to join the club on loan for the season from New England Revolution II, pending league and federation approval. 

Sierakowski, 24, comes to Madison with a large history of success at prior clubs. Sierakowski played for Michigan State University, making 81 appearances and scoring 33 goals in his time with the Spartans. He holds the record for the most posts scored by a soccer player in program history.

After college, Sierakowski was selected 23rd in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by the Portland Timbers. He then went on to sign with USL Championship side Portland Timbers 2 in March of 2019. From there, Sierakowski signed with Real Monarchs of the USL Championship in 2020 and was most recently on the New England Revolution II squad in USL League One this year.
