“Our trip to IMG Academy will be a very important step in the club’s development,” said head coach John Harkes. “Preseason trips like this take the players out of their element and provide a great opportunity to build team chemistry. The facilities at IMG Academy are first-rate, and our game against New England will be a great first measuring stick to gauge where our club is just over a month from our first game.”
The Revolution are coached by Brad Friedel, a former teammate of Harkes on the U.S. National Team. The Revolution are coming off a 3-1 loss to defending USL Cup winner Louisville City on February 14. Prior to their arrival in Florida, New England completed a training camp in Marbella, Spain.

Greenville, SC- The Greenville Triumph have rounded out their coaching staff with the announcements of Alex Blackburn and Rick Wright as the club looks forward to its inaugural season.
Blackburn comes to the Triumph having spent the last five years as an assistant at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey. Blackburn, a 4-year letter-winner at the same school, tallied 23 shutouts and 26 wins as a keeper for the Hawks.
“Making the decision to move to the Triumph has been a dream come true,” said Blackburn. “I’m truly humbled to be given the opportunity to take myself out of my comfort zone and coach alongside such an experienced coaching staff. I couldn’t be more excited to help bring success to the city of Greenville.”
“I am very familiar with Alex and his talents, work ethic, and ability to manage players,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “Alex also has tremendous experience coaching and training youth players with powerhouse club PDA in New Jersey. He brings many great qualities as a former keeper and will be a great assistant coach for the Greenville Triumph.”
Wright brings a variety of coaching experience to the club. He previously coached at Anderson University and Erskine College, leading both teams to multiple conference titles. Throughout his career he has coached several All-Americans and placed a number of players in the MLS.
As a player, Wright spent time with the Bermuda National Team and the U.S National team, including a 1976 Olympic Games appearance for the United States.
“I am honored to be a part of the Greenville Triumph’s inaugural season,” said Wright. “It is truly special to be selected by John Harkes to be a part of the coaching staff. The Upstate of South Carolina will be proud of this team.”

I am thrilled to officially add Rick to our coaching staff. He has a great demeanor and eye for talent and will bring tremendous depth of knowledge to our staff, players and club.”

Politz joins the Triumph after signing as a homegrown player with the New York Red Bulls in January 2018. The Morganville, N.J. native is a product of the Red Bulls Academy where he won the U.S. Soccer Academy National Championship in 2012 and 2013.
After high school, the defender went on the 71 games over 4 seasons at Wake Forest University. During his time in Winston-Salem, Politz spent time as team captain and earned two all-conference team selections as well as the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award.
After signing with the Red Bulls, Politz spent 2018 playing for their USL affiliate making a total of 21 appearances.
“Kevin is a player that I have monitored for the last few years,” said Head Coach John Harkes. “I have seen his development as a quality center back and a leader out of the back. He possesses great technique, reads the game well, has strength to tackle and has great timing in the air. I’m happy to have him join the Triumph in our inaugural year.”
Midfielder Omar Mohamed, of Westerville, OH, trained with the Columbus Crew Academy prior to spending one year at the junior college level playing 11 games and scoring 6 goals for Jackson College in Jackson, Michigan.

“Omar possesses special 1-on-1 skillsets to take on players and open up the game,” said Harkes. “I love his creativity and imagination and I was able to work with him as a very young player in Cincinnati. He has developed very well, and we will be getting him at a great time for our first season.”
