Greenville, SC – USL League One announced today its full schedule for the 2021 season, which will see each of the league’s 12 teams play 28 matches over 29 weeks for a place in the 2021 League One Playoffs in November.

Greenville Triumph SC plays its first match as the defending title-winners against the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium on Saturday, April 24. During the league’s first full month of action, Greenville will host a matchup between the league’s first two title-winners when North Texas comes to Triumph Stadium on May 1. The following weekend, North Carolina FC will host Greenville in their inaugural match as a member of League One. In a highlight match during the busy month of May, Greenville welcomes Union Omaha to the Upstate in a battle of the top two clubs from the 2020 season.

June and July are highlighted with the club’s return to Gillette Stadium on July 4, where New England Revolution II handed GTSC its first of only three losses during the 2020 season. Greenville will close July with its first match against Toronto FC II since the 2019 season.

Before ending the 2021 regular season on the road against North Carolina FC, the defending champions will host a three-match home stretch in September against Toronto FC II, Chattanooga and Tucson.

Tickets for the May 1 home opener can be secured by purchasing the Champions Ticket Package, which includes 2020 Champions hats and Triumph scarves. Single-match tickets will be available for purchase starting April 5 at 10:00 AM.

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph will face MLS side D.C. United in the first of four preseason matches this Saturday in a closed-door match at WakeMed Park in Cary, North Carolina with a 1:00 pm kickoff. 

Saturday’s match against D.C. United will be the first match GTSC has played since lifting the League One Trophy last October. The two-year club displayed an impressive 15-week run at the top of the table earning 11 wins through 16 games.

With a target on their backs heading into the 2021 season, head coach John Harkes understands the need for his club to be tested early. “It’ll be a good challenge for the guys, and we want to play against good competition,” said Harkes. “It’s great competition, but it’s also a chance for us to figure out who we are, how we match up against a club like that this early in the preseason.”

Not only will Saturday’s match be a quality first test for the freshly-crowned champions, but it will also be the first time Harkes has coached against the club he helped to establish. He was D.C. United’s first-ever captain during the inaugural 1996 MLS season and led the club to three MLS championships and two titles in three seasons. 

“I’ve had great memories there. I’m very grateful what that club gave to me and many players in the MLS. It’ll be fun but difficult to see us playing against black and red.”

Greenville, SC (March 18, 2021) – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club released its first kit with new partner hummel, debuting their 2021 secondary top Thursday afternoon in a photoshoot with Triumph players showcasing the new white shirt at iconic Greenville locations.

The white kit is anchored by a vertical tartan-patterned stripe in Triumph colors that pays homage to the stripe design on the club’s vintage 1961 Triumph TR3A car, a fixture at Triumph home matches and community appearances around the Upstate. The stripe is flanked by the hummel logo and the Triumph crest, which features the prominent gold star on top signifying the club’s 2020 USL League One title.

The kit also features logos of GTSC Signature Partners ScanSource and Bon Secours. Additionally, hummel’s trademark chevrons will adorn the sleeves. The back of the jersey gives a nod to the Upstate, featuring the Triumph’s “mountains and rivers” logo from the club’s crest.

“It’s very exciting to release our first hummel kit to our supporter base and the Upstate,” said Triumph Chief Brand Officer Doug Erwin. “Our new partnership with hummel has afforded us much more design freedom, so we were able to do some unique things for this kit. We knew we wanted to tie back to our Triumph car, which has brought so much joy to our supporters and community since its introduction in early 2019.”

The club will sell two versions of its kits this season: a replica-style top that features a thin, heat transfer Triumph crest and retails at $69.99, and an authentic top with a textured Triumph crest and USL League One patch on the left sleeve. The authentic top, which will also be worn in match play by Triumph players, will retail for $84.99. Both the authentic and replica kits are unisex. A youth replica kit will also be sold, retailing at $69.99.

All sizes and styles will be available at the Triumph team store, located on 22 S. Main St. in the heart of downtown Greenville, and via the club’s online store. The club plans to release its primary kit in the coming weeks.

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph will open their home season on Saturday, May 1, against North Texas Soccer Club, as announced by USL League One today as home openers for the league’s 2021 season were revealed. The 168-game regular season will kick off on Saturday, April 10, making it the first professional men’s league in the United States to begin its new regular-season campaign.

Greenville Triumph SC will play their first match of the 2021 season on April 24th, as the defending league champions travel to Virginia to face the Richmond Kickers. Richmond was one of just three sides to defeat the Triumph during the 2020 regular season, and they lead the two-year series 2-3-0.

Just one week later, GTSC will play their first home match since lifting the League One trophy last October. The championship club will host North Texas SC on Saturday, May 1st in a matchup of the league’s first two title-winners. 

Greenville will make its last appearance as part of a home-opening fixture on May 8th, as the Upstate side will take a short trip to Sahlen’s Stadium in Cary for an early meeting with North Carolina FC.

Every game of the 2021 League One season will air on ESPN+, with a complete schedule to be announced in the coming weeks.

Greenville, SC – Greenville Triumph SC has signed Dutch forward Marios Lomis for 2021, the club announced on Friday pending league and federation approval. 

The Bennebroek, Netherlands native comes to the Triumph from USL Championship side North Carolina FC, where he spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Lomis played a combined 1,722 minutes across his two seasons with NCFC, making 34 career appearances with 20 starts and 11 goals (5, 2018; 6, 2019). In 2019, Lomis was named NCFC’s Comeback Player of the Year after suffering a broken ankle in late May and returning to the pitch five months later (October 12 vs. Nashville SC). 

The forward returned to NCFC in August of 2020 where he played 17 matches after starting the 2020 season with El Paso Locomotive. 

Lomis played one season of college soccer with the Creighton University Bluejays prior to signing with NCFC. Before making his move to the United States, the Dutch forward spent four seasons with VV Noordwijk in the Hoofdklassein — the fifth division of Dutch soccer. He tallied 13 goals for the club during the 2016-2017 season.

“Marios is a talented, proven striker that has significant experience in the USL Championship. Acquiring a natural goal scorer like Marios fits nicely with our talented, competitive group. We are excited to see him in a GTSC kit in 2021,” said Triumph head coach, John Harkes.

Lomis joins a group of 14 returning players for the Triumph following the club’s season-end roster decisions as well as former Forward Madison attacker and seasoned professional, Don Smart.

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph has announced its 2021 preseason schedule, which will consist of four matches and feature all upper-division opponents. The club’s slate will begin on March 20 and play through April 17 ahead of the 2021 USL League One season.

MARCH 20   |   D.C. UNITED

John Harkes’s championship side will step onto the pitch for the first time in 2021 to compete against the very organization he helped build from the ground up. As D.C. United’s first-ever captain, Harkes led the MLS club to three championship matches and two titles in just three seasons after signing with the team in 1996. D.C. United finished 13th in the MLS Eastern Conference with a 5-6-12 record in 2020. 

APRIL 2   |   CHARLESTON BATTERY

Next on the Triumph’s preseason slate is USL Championship side, Charleston Battery. The two clubs met last February for a preseason match that saw Greenville earn a 1-0 win at Greenville Triumph Stadium.  With an 9-3-3 record, Charleston’s 2020 season ended after a 1-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final Playoff match. 

APRIL 11   |   LOUISVILLE CITY FC

Building on a challenging first two matches, Greenville will also face a Louisville City squad that finished the condensed, 16-game USL Championship season with the Eastern Conference’s best record. The boys in purple advanced to the USLC Eastern Conference Final for a sixth straight year before also falling short to the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Both Greenville and LouCity return nearly every key player from their respective 2020 seasons.

APRIL 17   |   CHARLOTTE INDEPENDENCE

Rounding out Greenville’s preseason tour is USL Championship side Charlotte Independence, whose 2020 season came to a close in the conference quarterfinals at the hands of the aforementioned Charleston Battery. Charlotte and Greenville also met last February for a preseason friendly that saw Greenville defeated 2-0. Charlotte is set to play the 2021 season in a brand new American Legion Memorial Stadium and will play in the USLC’s Atlantic Division alongside the Charleston Battery.

Greenville, SC –  The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club joined Bon Secours at the St. Francis Cancer Center on Tuesday, February 23 in a collaborative effort to celebrate one Triumph fan’s victory over cancer. Now officially in remission, Hudson Bethea was greeted at his final appointment with a slew of support and congratulations from Triumph players and staff as well as several Bon Secours staff members who cared for him throughout his health journey.

Bethea, who met the team as he battled leukemia during the Greenville Triumph’s inaugural season,  was an instant inspiration to the players and coaching staff. During his treatments, he became much more than a fan to members of the Triumph team including co-captain Aaron Walker.

“Hudson is a special person, and we are so happy to see where he is now.” said Walker. “I remember meeting him during our first season, and his spirited personality permeated throughout our locker room immediately. He’s been a dedicated fan from the jump, despite how difficult his own personal journey has been, and that really speaks to who he is.”

Walker’s sentiments regarding Bethea’s demeanor were echoed by the many doctors and nurses who worked with him daily.

“Hudson won our hearts from the beginning with his joyous demeanor and ability to keep us laughing,” said RN and AYA Cancer program coordinator, Kaitlin Bomar. “In this line of work, we have a unique opportunity to comfort, laugh, cry and even celebrate with our patients during an unfathomable period of time in their life. When he finished therapy, many staff shared the same sentiment of wanting to celebrate him. The Triumph rallied with Hudson from nearly the onset of his diagnosis like they have done for many of our patients. It was only fitting to invite them to help us celebrate Hudson’s next milestone.”

“It’s amazing that he’s in remission. Hudson is part of our Triumph family. Community is so important to our club, and it’s an important part of this partnership. So we’re just thankful to see that played our through our relationship with Hudson and thankful to see this step in his journey,” concluded Walker.

Greenville, SC – The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club announced today that it promoted Assistant Coach Rick Wright to a dual role as Director of Technical Alliances and Community Development. The club also hired Rachele Manfre as Partnership Marketing and Community Development Coordinator and Patrick Livesay as Ticket Account Executive.

The front office team expansion comes on the heels of news that the club solidified the leadership of its technical staff with the signing of a two-year contract extension with Head Coach & Sporting Director John Harkes, expanded its investment in the Upstate business community with the opening of its brick-and-mortar retail store and team headquarters in Downtown Greenville, and that it continues to explore opportunities for the potential development of a new stadium.

As the Director of Technical Alliances and Community Development, Wright continues to cultivate relationships within the local soccer community including college and high school programs, as well as developing, implementing, and activating the club’s youth soccer strategy and programming. Wright has been involved with South Carolina soccer since 1976. He helped start Anderson University’s soccer program and was its head coach before serving in the same role at Erskine College, leading both teams to multiple conference titles. As a player, Wright made appearances for the Bermuda and U.S. National teams, including an appearance with the United States team at the 1976 Olympic Games.

As Partnership Marketing and Community Development Coordinator, Greenville native Rachele Manfre facilitates corporate partner fulfillment, develops initiatives around Triumph youth soccer camps and clinics, and assists in operations and presentation for the club on match days. She previously interned with the club in 2019 and 2020 and was a soccer-focused strength and conditioning coach with Greenville-based 11:11 Training. Manfre played her youth soccer with the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (CESA) and was a member of Clemson’s conference championship women’s soccer team in 2017. She transferred to Eastern Kentucky University where she completed her collegiate soccer career and earned her bachelor’s degree.

As Ticket Account Executive, Livesay identifies new business opportunities, generates leads and sells new season packages, group outings and hospitality packages, and specialty ticket products. He also manages existing season ticket member accounts and renewals. Prior to his new role Livesay, was a sales development representative for the Miami Dolphins. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina.
