Hartford Athletic announced that Defender Harry Swartz (Needham, MA) has been signed for the season. 

Swartz, who attended the MLS Combine in 2019, scored five career goals and earned five assists during his Northeastern tenure, during which he served his final three seasons on the Huskies' captain corps. The speedy Swartz, who played forward with the Huskies, played a key role during Northeastern's 2018 return to the postseason, helping the Huskies reach the CAA tournament for the first time since his freshman, 2014 campaign.

A two-time All-CAA honoree (2017 Second Team, 2018 Second Team), Swartz was recently named to the 2018 NCAA Division I Men's All-Atlantic Region Third Team (Dec. 6), as announced by United Soccer Coaches.

Swartz will be available for Hartford Athletic's first home match, Saturday night at 7 PM at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field. Tickets are still available and can be purchased here.

The Hartford Athletic 8-match road trip to start the season ended with a hard fought 4-1 loss to North Carolina FC on Saturday night. 

North Carolina jumped on the board early in the 5th minute when Mario Lomis got free on a run and powered a shot to the far post past Goalkeeper Frederik Due. 

Hartford would have a number of chances in the following minutes including great chances from Mac Steeves and Alex Dixon that couldn’t find the net. Due made a couple of outstanding saves throughout the half to keep the score 1-0.

In stoppage time, North Carolina would add one more. Sam Brotherton found open space off a corner kick and poked it past a scrum of Hartford defenders for the goal. North Carolina took a 2-0 lead into the break.

NCFC would add another right out of the break off the foot of the captain Steven Miller to go up 3-0. But Hartford had an answer. 11 minutes later Dixon powered home an incredible strike from just outside the box to put Hartford on the board. North Carolina would add one more goal to put the game away in the 81'.

A young, creative midfielder, Martin made five starts (12 appearances) for the Loons during the 2018 campaign. He has represented the United States at U14, U15 and U17 levels and was the only high-school junior to train with the U20 squad in January 2012. Martin first joined MLS as a homegrown signing for D.C. United in July 2013. He spent time on loan with the Richmond Kickers from 2013–2015 before eventually sealing a move to the Loons in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

Montclair, NJ – Hartford Athletic suffered a tough defeat to New York Red Bulls II, who now finds themselves in third place in the Eastern Conference. After a scoreless first 45 minutes, RBII found the back of the net four times in the second-half for a 4-0 victory.

Both sides had chances in a scoreless opening half, but the Red Bulls II took the lead eight minutes after the break when Jared Stroud produced a chipped finish from 30 yards after Goalkeeper Jon Kempin had to come out of his penalty area to make a challenge on a breaking Tom Barlow. Barlow found the net to cap off a sweeping counterattack in the 64th minute to make it a 2-0 lead.

Derrick Etienne Jr. and Chris Lema also scored, leading the Red Bulls II to their fourth victory in their opening five outings.

Hartford will get a long break before the return to action on April 27th against North Carolina FC.

Pittsburgh's Neco Brett converted from the spot on a controversial penalty call in the 81' as the Riverhounds sealed the match 3-1.

Argudo came to Hartford on loan from Columbus Crew and made an immediate impact in the midfield for Hartford. How he contributes as he continues to get more comfortable with his teammates is something to keep an eye on.

NYRBII – Tom Barlow, F

Barlow leads the offensive attack for RBII with 5 goals, tied for 3rd in the league this season. The RBII offense runs through Barlow, look for him to get some chances, if RBII is going to get going offensively.

NYRB II have started the season unbeaten in four straight matches with a record of 3-0-1. They will be looking to beat the best record start in club history, which is 3-0-2 and was set in 2016. Hartford Athletic and RBII played in a preseason friendly in February. Hartford Athletic came away victorious 2-0, scoring twice on set pieces.
