Indy Eleven defender Ayoze Garcia has been voted to the USL Championship Team of the Week for Week 28 of the 2019 season. The Spaniard earned the TOTW nod after notching a pair of goals in Indy’s 2-0 win over Ottawa Fury FC last Wednesday, September 11, extending the club’s home undefeated run to a record-breaking 22 matches. In addition to notching his second and third goals of the year, Ayoze created 12 chances and completed nearly 88% of his passes over the course of Indy’s two-win week.
Ayoze’s TOTW appearance is his third of the season and the 11th time this season a member of Indiana’s Team has made the league’s weekly honor roll. Kenney Walker (Week 2), Dane Kelly (Week 7; Player of the Week), Evan Newton (Week 9; Player of the Week), Neveal Hackshaw (Week 12), Drew Conner (Week 25) and Tyler Pasher (Week 13, 15, 17) have all earned spots in Team of the Week lineups so far this season.
Prior to joining Indiana’s Team in 2018, Ayoze spent five seasons with New York Cosmos during the club’s NASL era, winning three Soccer Bowl championship in that time (2013, 2015 & 2016). The 33-year-old spent most of his career playing professionally in Spain, including a seven-year stint with Segunda Division side CD Tenerife.
Ayoze and the rest of Indiana’s Team will hit the road to Alabama to take on Birmingham Legion FC this Friday, September 20. GK – Chris Hubbard, Louisville City FC: Hubbard recorded a four-save shutout in a performance that also saw him claim three catches and make 12 recoveries in LouCity’s shutout victory on the road in Hartford.
D – Brent Richards, Reno 1868 FC: Richards recorded three assists in Reno’s victory against Tacoma, and across two 1868 FC victories had five chances created, six interceptions, seven clearances and nine recoveries.
D – Austin Ledbetter, Phoenix Rising FC: Ledbetter completed 48 of 53 passes, had two key passes and won 6 of 8 duels in Phoenix’s road victory against Las Vegas Lights FC on Wednesday night.
