Indy Eleven has announced a transfer agreement with Houston Dynamo FC of Major League Soccer that sent forward Tyler Pasher to the Texan side, effective immediately. Terms of the agreement resulting in Pasher’s return to MLS following three seasons with Indiana’s Team will not be released, per club policy.

“We are very pleased that Tyler has the opportunity to play in Major League Soccer with Houston Dynamo FC. He has produced some great moments of individual brilliance over the last few seasons and I’m sure our fans will wish him well as he moves forward in his career,” expressed Indy Eleven Head Coach Martin Rennie. “It has been great to see Tyler develop as a player during his time here in Indy and I want to personally thank him for his significant contribution to the team.”

Pasher joined Indy Eleven in the build up to its 2018 season after suiting up for MLS side Sporting Kansas City and its USL Championship affiliate, then known as Swope Park Rangers, across the 2016-17 seasons. Following an injury-shortened 2018 slate with Indiana’s Team, the converted outside back flourished after moving into the team’s attack in 2019, registering 13 goals and four assists during a campaign that culminated with him scoring in the USL Championship Playoffs Eastern Conference Final.

The 26-year-old striker picked up where he left off in 2020, as he sat atop the league’s scoring chart for much of the season before ultimately finishing with 10 goals and a pair of assists in just 15 games. Pasher’s performances last year earned him plenty of accolades, including July’s USL Championship Player of the Month award, a #1 spot on ESPN SportsCenter’s “Top Ten”, and placement on the Championship’s All-League Second Team alongside teammate Neveal Hackshaw.

Indy Eleven made its first international signing of the 2021 offseason official with today’s announcement that Venezuelan forward Manuel Arteaga has joined the Boys in Blue. Terms of the contract that brings the veteran striker to Indiana’s Team will not be released, per club policy.

Arteaga comes to Indianapolis with 10 seasons of professional experience in tow, despite entering the prime of his career at just 26 years of age.  The Venezuelan is the 14th player signed to the Eleven’s 2021 roster, and the fourth new addition during the 2020/21 offseason. Arteaga (are-tee-AH-ga) joins Indy Eleven after suiting up in numerous professional leagues across South America and Europe. The native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, has spent most of his time in that country’s Primera (First) Division, where he averaged 0.48 goals per 90 minutes while scoring 65 times across 162 appearances for Zulia FC (2010-15), Deportivo Anzoátegui SC(2013-15), Deportivo La Guaira FC (2017-19), and, most recently, Zamora FC (2019-20).

In addition to playing for Bolivian powerhouse The Strongest (2016-17), Arteaga also plied his trade at the highest level in Europe with Parma of Serie A (Italy), and Hajduk Split (Croatia) amongst others. In all, Arteaga has notched 68 goals for his clubs spanning 199 professional appearances since making his debut at the age of 16 for Zulia in 2010.

Arteaga also has experience within the Venezuelan Men’s National Team structure, having represented La Vinotinto at the Senior, U-17, and U-20 levels. The 24-year-old Buckmaster became the 13th player signed to the Eleven’s 2021 roster, and the third newcomer alongside fellow defender Jared Timmer and forward Cal Jennings, the latter a teammate last season with Memphis 901 FC. The team’s roster as it currently stands:

Indy Eleven’s first player transaction of the 2021 calendar year marked the return a familiar face to Indiana’s Team via the re-signing of defender Karl Ouimette. Terms of the contract keeping the veteran center back a member of the Boys in Blue will not be disclosed.

The 28-year-old Ouimette joins goalkeeper Jordan Farr, midfielder Ayoze, and forward Tyler Pasher as the longest-tenured players on the Indy Eleven roster, with the quartet preparing for their fourth seasons in Indianapolis. Ouimette is also one of ten players from last year’s squad confirmed to return to the 2021 roster, which currently stands at 12 signings:

The native of Repentigny, Quebec, finished at or near the top of every defensive category for the squad last season, registering 65 of 94 aerial duels won (both 1st), 105 duels won (1st), 38 clearances (2nd), nine blocks (2nd), 20 interceptions (2nd), and 18 of 27 tackles won (both 2nd).

What's your favorite snack/junk food?

CJ: “Oh, man! I eat all day long, so I’m going to have to think about this for a little bit. I like a good trail mix. That’s not a junk food, but whether it’s with granola, different nuts, M&M’s or something, I like that a lot. Junk food…I would say Chik-fil-a. Chik-fil-a is considered junk food. I’d say a good Chik-fil-a sandwich.”

If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?

CJ: “Oh my goodness. You’re hitting me with the hard ones. Let me think about that. So, I’m a big Marvel fan. I like all of the Avengers and I’ve liked all of the different Marvel movies they’ve come out with. I would say 'Avengers: Infinity War', that’s a recent one that I really like.”

Favorite soccer team you support?

CJ: “Well, Indy Eleven, of course. That’s the one that I’m playing for. Outside of Indy Eleven – so, I’m one of those people that roots for the underdog for the most part. I don’t necessarily have a favorite team, but I loved when Leicester City FC won the Premier League in 2015-16. I was all in. I was a bandwagon fan for it because I obviously didn’t grow up a Leicester fan, but I like the whole idea of a Cinderella story – somebody that isn’t necessarily supposed to win, but they succeed and do well.”

Messi or Ronaldo?

CJ: “Jamie Vardy. That’s my answer.”

If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

CJ: “I would’ve liked to have dinner with Martin Luther King Jr., to meet and have a conversation with him. For obvious reasons, but also because he seemed like someone who was really grounded in who he is in his faith. Also, genuinely sharing love with others. Even those who didn’t treat him well, those who were against him, he responded in love all the time. That’s somebody I would love to meet.”

What’s your favorite pre-game hype song?

CJ: “I’m not actually one that listens to too much before games. I like music, but I’m not one that needs music to pump me up. But some of the genres I like, I like country music – I’m from Georgia, so that might be a given. I also got into Afrobeat in college because my roommate was from Ghana. Stonebwoy is an artist you may have never heard of, but one that I like to listen to.”

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

CJ: “I heard one recently. This isn’t really a superpower, but to be able to have at a short notice the statistics of everything I’ve done in my life. Not necessarily related to sports, but a grand list of statistics would be funny to have.”

If you could be a guest star on any TV show, what show would you be on?

CJ: “When it was running, ‘The Office’. I would have loved to have been on ‘The Office’ and see Michael Scott go to work. I think I would probably want to be in Sales, that’s where all the action is happening; that’s where the big personality characters seem to be. I would probably be helping Jim instigate pranks.”

What’s one thing about you that no one else knows?

CJ: “Okay, here’s something. It’s not something that no one else knows, but a lot of people wouldn’t know this. I use it as an icebreaker when I’m in a group and need one. I didn’t eat a peanut butter & jelly sandwich until I was 21 [years-old] in college. So, that’s my icebreaker. The reason being is that my brother is allergic to peanut butter. I looked up to my older brother growing up, so I would tell people I’m allergic to peanut butter. I didn’t want to try it and then I got to college and I was like ‘I really like PB&J sandwiches.’ That’s a snack that I go to.”

Who is your celebrity lookalike?

CJ: “I think in the soccer would – and I don’t necessarily agree with this because he’s a big dude – Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I get that just with the mustache and the long hair. I’ve actually gotten Matthew McConaughey a couple times, but I don’t know if I necessarily see that. I don’t know, we’ll see. Maybe we’ll give the fans a chance to roast me and see if I have a celebrity lookalike.”

What are you most excited about this season?

CJ: “I’m excited to get to know the team, to build relationships with my teammates. To go in day in and day out trying to get better and to bring success to Indy this year, where ultimately, we want to win a championship. That’s everyone’s goal going into it, but Indy seems like the perfect place to do so.”

The 23-year-old Timmer made an immediate impact during his rookie season in Reno, starting 11 of his 15 appearances for the USL Championship side, including both of the club’s appearances in the Western Conference Playoffs. Timmer ended the season with one assist and finished amongst the squad’s leaders with 33 clearances (2nd), 20 aerial duels won (3rd), 12 blocks (3rd), 24 interceptions (4th) and 13 tackles won (4th) from his center back position.

“Jared is a player we kept tabs on during and after his time at Butler, and we are thrilled to bring him back to Indianapolis after he performed quite well during his rookie season,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Martin Rennie. “While he played a lot as a defender last year he was a standout midfielder in college, and we expect that versatility will allow him to compete for minutes at multiple spots on the field for us in 2021.”

Timmer is the fourth Butler Bulldog to join Indy Eleven since 2014, joining in the footsteps of fellow alumni Jon Dawson (2014), Zach Steinberger (2015 & 2018), and David Goldsmith (2017).

The native of Hudsonville, Mich., called the Butler Bowl home from 2015-19 and was a starter for Head Coach Paul Snape’s side since the day he stepped on campus, scoring six times and contributing 13 assists – including a BIG EAST Conference leading nine helpers in 2016 – in 66 appearances. A three-year captain, Timmer was an All-BIG EAST First Team and All-Tournament Team selection in 2016 and helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Men’s College Cup postseason in 2016, 2017 & 2019.

This will not be Timmer’s first experience with the Indy Eleven organization, as he spent time as a Business Development Intern with the club in 2019 prior to graduating from Butler’s Lacy School of Business later that year with degrees in Marketing and Risk Management & Insurance.
