One might say that Indy Eleven is over the moon with its newest signing, as today Indiana’s Team officially welcomed midfielder Nick Moon to its 2020 roster. Per club policy, terms of the contract that brings the 23-year-old Moon to Indiana’s Team will not be released.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to join Indy in the coming season and am looking forward to working with coach Rennie and the system that the team runs,” said Moon. “I know the club has strong ambitions to compete for a cup and I’m looking forward to contributing in every way possible to work toward that goal. I really think Indy Eleven is a good fit for my playing style and I know I can learn a lot from the coaching staff and other players.”
Moon began his professional career in impressive fashion last season with USL League One side Lansing Ignite FC, with his six goals and four assists both placing tied for third on the squad. The versatile Moon led Lansing in appearances (29), duels (366), and duels won (199); placed second with 27 starts and 2,424 minutes played; and also finished in Ignite FC’s top five in shots on target (15), interceptions (29), tackles (34), tackles won (22), aerial duels (79) and aerial duels won (49). Moon received five Team of the Week nods throughout the year for his stellar performances, earning the midfielder a spot on the 2019 USL League One All-League Second Team.
“Nick Moon is a player that does a lot of things very well, and he showed that in his rookie season in League One,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Martin Rennie. “No matter where you line him up, he can get the job done on both sides of the ball and isn’t one to shy away from the dirty work that can help control a game.”
Prior to turning pro, Moon scored 12 goals and provided 13 assists in 71 appearances for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 2014-17. He recorded his strongest season his senior year, tallying six goals and six assists en route to earning First-Team All-Horizon League honors. From 2017-18, Moon served as one of Lane United FC’s most important members in USL League Two (formerly known as the Premier Development League), tallying 12 goals and four assists in 24 appearances.
Moon is the 13th player confirmed to suit up for Indiana’s Team in 2020, and the second newcomer to the squad alongside reigning USL League One Defender of the Year Conner Antley. More player announcements involving Boys in Blue both old and new to the roster are in store leading into the weekend.
