Before joining the club, Hugo Mbongue developed through the Toronto FC Academy and signed his first professional contract with Toronto FC II in 2021. His strong performances earned him a first-team deal with Toronto FC in 2022, and he made his Major League Soccer debut on October 9 of that year against the Philadelphia Union. In 2024, he was loaned to San Antonio FC in the USL Championship, where he continued to develop and gain valuable experience.
