Louisville City FC goalkeeper Kyle Morton is on the mend after a collision early in Sunday’s match at Tampa Bay left the 28-year-old with a concussion.
LouCity head coach Danny Cruz said the team is thankful Morton is “feeling a bit better as the week has progressed.”
“It was a scary moment seeing him on the field unconscious, and a difficult moment for our players to see their teammate in that way,” Cruz said. “We are hopeful that he continues to have positive progression and look forward to getting him back on the training ground.”
“Thank you everyone for the well wishes and prayers,” Morton said. “I’m feeling better every day and looking forward to getting back to work.”
A West Chester, Pennsylvania, native, Morton has started in 13 of City’s regular season games and leads the USL Championship’s Golden Glove race with seven clean sheets and a 76.7% save percentage.
Morton was replaced on Sunday by reserve goalkeeper Danny Faundez, who earned his spot on LouCity’s roster after impressing in open tryouts in January. It was the Seattle native’s USL Championship debut, and he made the most of it, recording three saves en route to a Man of the Match performance.
Earlier this season, Faundez spent time with USL League One expansion side Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC on loan as the club started its U.S. Open Cup run. The 29-year-old was in goal for Hailstorm‘s tournament win over USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC to advance to the tournament’s third round.
No game for the boys in purple this weekend, but the group returns to action against 2021 USL Championship title winners Orange County SC on June 18 at Lynn Family Stadium where kick off is set for 7:30 p.m.
