Louisville City FC will have the luxury of Brian Ownby in its starting 11 on Wednesday for the first time in more than a month when facing Detroit City FC.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Michigan, where Ownby is one of six changes from last week’s loss to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. LouCity also rotated heavily for its Saturday international friendly with Mexico’s Atlante FC, and this marks the fourth of five games in just a 15-day span.
Ownby has recovered from a pair of muscle strains since his last USL Championship start back on June 3, first returning from a hamstring pull before he followed up by tweaking his calf. The winger came back to play limited minutes in the Atlante friendly, adding fitness for his league return.
At age 33, Ownby remains one of the most electric attackers in the USL Championship and could prove pivotal to a LouCity offense that has struggled this season. He figures to take up a spot on the left wing with Rasmus Thellufsen on the right and Cameron Lancaster the center forward.
Behind them, a revamped midfield will consist of Dylan Mares, Paolo DelPiccolo and Tyler Gibson — all changes for coach Danny Cruz from the Pittsburgh game. Oliver Semmle continues to start in goal with a back four of Oscar Jimenez, Wes Charpie, Sean Totsch and Manny Perez.
LouCity picked up a few knocks in the Atlante friendly, with Owen Damm, Enoch Mushagalusa and Ramzi Qawasmy all listed out on the player availability report. Striker Wilson Harris will also miss a second straight league game due to injury.
Wednesday’s game will air locally on MyTV 58 and ESPN Louisville’s 680/105.7. USL Championship games also stream via ESPN+.
