After coming on as a halftime sub in last weekend’s comeback victory, Louisville City FC captain Paolo DelPiccolo returns to the starting lineup Saturday as the boys in purple play for the first time at New Mexico United.
DelPiccolo is one of two changes for LouCity heading into a 9 p.m. ET kickoff at Isotopes Park, with Jorge Gonzalez the other in the front line of an expected 3-4-3 formation.
City has three regular season games left to improve its playoff positioning and will kick off with a familiar defense. Goalkeeper Oliver Semmle — who’s one clean sheet shy of matching the single-season club record at 13 — lines up behind a back three of Kyle Adams, Wes Charpie and Sean Totsch.
Carlos Moguel Jr. and DelPiccolo feature in the midfield with Oscar Jimenez and Manny Perez the wing backs on either flank. The front three consists of Gonzalez, Wilson Harris and Brian Ownby from left to right.
LouCity sits even on points with fourth-place Memphis 901 FC but ranks fifth on goal differential. A victory Saturday would help the boys in purple, at a minimum, keep pace with Memphis in the race to claim a top-four spot and home field advantage to open the playoffs.
City at New Mexico will air locally on WBKI/The CW and ESPN Louisville’s 680/105.7. USL Championship games also stream live on ESPN+.
