Louisville City FC players are eager to get back in the win column this weekend vs. Indy Eleven. Defender Alexis Souahy is working hard to help get his team back on the right track.
“We want to meet expectations, to be high up in the table, you know? We know we can do better,” Souahy said. “All we need are more results, more than just a tie. So we’re looking forward to the next few games, for sure.”
Getting more victories is certainly at the top of everyone’s mind. LouCity, the USL Cup winners in 2017 and 2018, currently finds itself in sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The club is eight points behind the first place Tampa Bay Rowdies.
Souahy knows it’s important for him to improve individually as well in order to give his team the best chance to win on game days.
“I’m just working on, tactically, what I can do better on the defense and the attacking side,” Souahy said.
Souahy is also excited about the state of soccer back in his home country of France. France is currently hosting the women’s World Cup, and their men’s national team won the World Cup last summer.
“I was seeing my friends and my family celebrating in the streets and everything,” Souahy said. “And this women’s World Cup is pretty exciting because I believe on Friday France is playing the U.S., so that’ll be very interesting to be in America to watch this game.”
He did admit that he will be rooting for his home country in this particular matchup.
Souahy also thinks there is hope for the sport to gain traction in the States sometime in the future.
“I think soccer needs to be (more) represented in the U.S., but it’s very hard,” Souahy said. “Here in this country it’s a football and basketball and baseball culture, so it’s gonna take some years, but I believe soccer can be one of the top sports in the U.S.”
Souahy and the rest of LouCity will travel to Indianapolis Friday to take on Indy Eleven Saturday night at 7 p.m. The game will be televised locally on WBKI and streamed on ESPN+. The radio broadcast with Kevin Kernen and Jeff Greer will be on 840 WHAS.
