LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville City FC announced their first signing of a University of Kentucky product on Friday, adding USL veteran and Wildcats alumnus George Davis IV. The former UK star is the third incoming player for LouCity this offseason, providing even more firepower to the club’s roster that already returned 15 players from the historic 2015 roster.
Per Club policy, the terms of agreement were not disclosed.
“We are thrilled to sign a player of George’s pedigree,” Louisville City FC coach James O’Connor said. “He is a top-class talent and we are very excited to have him on board.
“He knows the area well, having spent some time previously at UK and growing up in Lima, Ohio.”
The 28-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Richmond Kickers, where he hit the back of the net 19 times. His stunning free kick to beat Toronto FC II on the final day of the 2015 regular season clinched a playoff spot for the club, and he expects to have similar success at Louisville City.
“I know the club has high aspirations and I strive to help bring that success,” Davis IV said. “As a UK grad, I’m very excited to come back to Kentucky. It’s going to be a great feeling playing in front of family, friends, and the great fans of Louisville.”
While at Kentucky, the midfielder was named to the 2009 Conference USA All-Tournament Team. Davis IV came off the bench in the 67th minute of the C-USA semifinals versus Tulsa, and scored within two minutes to bring the Wildcats within a goal. It would be his last collegiate goal as Kentucky fell 2-1.
Before his time in Richmond, Davis IV played two seasons with LA Blues, where he scored eight goals in 39 appearances. In 2012 — while under contract with LA — he was loaned out to Orlando City SC, where he was teammates with O’Connor.
The midfielder spent his first two years as a professional with the Dayton Dutch Lions. He took the field for Dayton 39 times and scored 12 goals.
