Miami, FL. (June 11th, 2023)
Saturday, Miami FC played on the road against Rio Grande Valley FC. The game was packed with action from the beginning, with Miami FC immediately scoring in the second minute on a penalty taken by Kyle Murphy. Despite going down a goal early, RGV was determined to claw back into the match. In the 37th minute, Wilmer Cabrera Jr. brought RGV level with a curling strike from distance into the bottom corner. This motivated the home team as they started to build some attacking momentum, and four minutes later Frank Lopez capitalized on an opportunity in front of the net to put Rio Grande Valley FC ahead 2-1 at the half.
The second half began in Miami FC‘s favor when Claudio Repetto scored on a rocket strike inside the box, energizing Miami and making it 2-2. Miami FC started to find success passing the ball, and in the 78th minute Ryan Telfer found the back of the net after a nice combination in the box to put Miami up 3-2. Miami seemed to be in control after taking the lead, but in the 96th minute RGV scored as a result of a miscommunication in the box, and the game ended in 3-3 draw.
Both teams left with points, but Miami FC will feel like they should have been heading home with more. Despite conceding late, there were a lot of positives for Miami to take away from the match. The offense is finally finding its rhythm and producing goals, and to come from behind at half on the road and almost leave with three points shows the grittiness of the squad.
Next Saturday, Miami FC will be back in action at home against Loudoun United FC, tickets are on sale at Miamifc.com. Miami has performed solidly at home this season, so this will definitely be a match you do not want to miss.
