New Mexico United is excited to announce that the club has signed Club President Ron Patel to a full professional contract to serve as the club’s third-string goalkeeper. The signing is historic, marking the first time that a Club President has been signed to a professional active roster, as well as the first time Patel has stepped onto a professional pitch since his heroic preseason TLC Halftime Shootout performance earlier this season.
“Mizell, Tambakis, Shakes, Patel. Ron now enters the pantheon of all-time greats,” said United Sporting Director Itamar Keinan. “We are thrilled to see Ron’s dynamic leadership traits take form on the pitch, and can’t wait to see him two-foot the first striker to enter his six-yard box.”
When asked about the significance of his signing Patel replied: “I’m just here to help the team in any way possible. I’ve got my sights set on Shakes’ job first, then who knows? Maybe I’ll give striker a go. I’ve been workin’ on my fitness. Peter Trevisani is my witness.”
Patel will be available for questions from local media at the local pub. Put the first round on his tab.
