Defender Henry Kalungi joins the Carolina RailHawks on loan from the Richmond Kickers for the reminder of the NASL Season. Kalungi was a stalwart for Richmond during their 2013 campaign, where they captured the regular season title with a 15W-10T-1L record. The Ugandan International spent the conclusion of the 2012 NASL Season with the RailHawks making his debut in a 1-1 draw against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on September 20th.
“We are glad to add Henry for the remainder of the season,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke. “Henry is a big, strong defender, he’s good in the air, and is familiar with what we like to do. His familiarity with the club and the current squad makes it an easier transition.”
Kalungi could make his 2013 RailHawks debut on Saturday, when the RailHawks travel to New York to face the Cosmos at James M. Shuart Stadium. Kalungi helped lead Richmond to having statistically the best defense in USL Pro, allowing 24 goals for a 0.92 goals allowed per game average.
The 6’2” defender has 7 caps for the Uganda National Team, including 3 appearances during the African nation’s qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Kalungi and his RailHawks teammates travel to New York to face the NASL-leading Cosmos on Saturday, October 12th at 7:00pm.
