CARY, NC (May 30, 2022) – North Carolina FC forward Garrett McLaughlin has been named Player of the Week, and is joined on the USL League One Team of the Week by defender Christian Lue Young and midfielders Raheem Somersall and Luis Arriaga in Week Nine of the 2022 regular season, the club announced today.
Scoring a pair of first half goals in NCFC’s 2-1 win over the Richmond Kickers, McLaughlin earns his first nod as Player of the Week, and earns Team of the Week honors for a second time this season. The striker now leads the league in goals scored with six, continuing to be competitive in the Golden Boot race as the regular season continues.
Lue Young also earns Team of the Week accolades for the second time this year, piecing together another outstanding performance on the backline. The defender created three chances in Saturday’s match and recorded six recoveries, three clearances and two interceptions.

Arriaga joins Lue Young, McLaughlin, and Somersall on the Team of the Week, and like Somersall, earns the accolade in back-to-back weeks. The Santa Rosa, CA native collected an assist, took four shots and a pair of corners, and created two chances during Saturday’s match to see the win through.
