CARY, NC (Oct. 3, 2022) – North Carolina FC forward Nico Rincon has been named the USL League One Player of the Week for Week 27 of the 2022 regular season, the league announced today as part of their Team of the Week. NCFC boasts a league-high four players with weekly honors with Rincon, defenders Jordan Skelton and Christian Lue Young and midfielder Oalex Anderson.
“I am very happy for this week,” Rincon said. “I was working all year and waiting for my opportunity, but I can’t give myself all the credit. Mentally, I think all the guys have helped me to keep working hard, and I’ll continue that hard work.”
The 16-year-old Rincon earns Player of the Week and Team of the Week honors for the first time in his young career. He contributed on both goals in NCFC’s 2-1 win over Central Valley Fuego last Wednesday, assisting on Garrett McLaughlin’s 14th goal of the season then scoring his first professional goal for what would be the game-winner.
“I am extremely proud of Nico for this recognition and the way he has grown this year,” said Head Coach John Bradford. “His performances over the last few games have been very strong, and he is only going to get better. All the credit goes to Nico’s mentality and determination to believe in the process and work as hard as he can.”
The most of any NCFC player this season, Lue Young earns Team of the Week honors for the fifth time following a four-point week for the North Carolina side. The defender led the league in recoveries with 17, also adding six clearances and four interceptions. Skelton joined Lue Young in leading NCFC to an impressive defensive week with his 16 duels won, 15 recoveries and 10 clearances.
Anderson rescued a point for NCFC with his late equalizer against Union Omaha Saturday night to earn a 1-1 draw. The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines international also tallied a league-high 19 duels won, earned 10 recoveries and created three chances.
