Orange County SC played to a thrilling 0-0 draw with San Antonio FC on Saturday, April 13 at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas. Goalkeeper Duran Ferree made his OCSC debut, recording three saves and collecting the shutout to keep OCSC unbeaten in the 2024 USL Championship regular season.
The County Boys had their first chance of the night in the fifth minute as forward Cameron Dunbar found some open space in the middle of the pitch. Dunbar fired from range, missing just wide to the left.
San Antonio had an opportunity in the 20th minute as midfielder Jorge Hernandez found midfielder Luke Haakenson in the center of the box. Haakenson forced in a shot from close range with his left foot, however, it sailed over the crossbar.
The home side threatened again in the 37th minute as defender Lucas Silva had the first shot on target of the night for either side. He found some space on the left side of the box, striking one with his left foot that was saved in the bottom left corner of the net by Ferree, sending both teams into the half tied 0-0.
San Antonio continued to apply pressure in the 56th minute as defender Shannon Gómez drew a free kick in the attacking half of the pitch. Hernandez sent in a cross towards the back post to the overlapping captain defender Mitchell Taintor. Taintor connected with a header that was saved by Ferree.
Orange County finally gained some momentum with their first shot on target in the 61st minute. Midfielder Ashish Chattha found Dunbar on the left side of the pitch. Dunbar dribbled through the defense, cutting hard to the right, and fired a low shot to the bottom left corner of the net that was saved by San Antonio goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega.
The Black and Orange stayed on the front foot in the 73rd minute as Iloski forced a takeaway in the attacking half of the pitch leading to a breakaway for OCSC. Iloski sped down the middle of the field finding substitute forward Ethan Zubak on the right side of the box. Zubak chipped one with his right foot, forcing a leaping save from Sisniega.
San Antonio forced another chance in the 78th minute as Taintor again sent in a ball this time towards substitute forward Machop Chol. Chol grazed a header towards the direction of goal, yet Ferree made another leaping save to keep the score level at 0-0.
The visitors fought hard until the end, securing the point and maintaining their position as first place in the 2024 USL Championship Western Conference Standings.
