Phoenix Rising FC has signed forward Richmond Antwi to a multi-year contract, pending USL and federation approval, the club announced today.
“Richmond is a very talented striker,” said Phoenix Rising head coach Rick Schantz. “He will bring extraordinary speed and power to our team. He’ll be a handful for any defender. He is young but has experience playing at the highest levels in Sudan and Ghana. I’m very excited to work with him and help him take the next step in his development at Phoenix Rising.”
Antwi had a breakout season as an 18-year-old while playing with Al Khartoum FC in the Sudanese first division in 2018-19. He scored 18 goals and four assists in 17 matches before transferring to Al Merrikh FC for the 2019-20 season. In 11 matches with Al Merrikh, Antwi recorded seven goals and five assists. He returned to his home country of Ghana this past season, scoring another four goals and three assists for Legion Cities FC.
“I’ve been following Rising for a few months now,” said Antwi. “I feel like it will be a very good fit for me. It’s a very good club and I really like the playing style. I’m excited to travel there, meet everyone and prepare for next season.”
Rising now has 17 players under contract for the 2022 season including: Antwi, Joey Calistri, Lalo Delgado, Niall Dunn, Marcus Epps, Joe Farrell, Ryan Flood, Ivan Gutierrez, Darnell King, Jonathan Levin, Manuel Madrid, Santi Moar, James Musa, Baboucar Njie, Aodhan Quinn, Arturo Rodriguez and Luis Seijas.
