Phoenix Rising plays the first of its final two regular-season home matches when it hosts Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and will air on Your PHX CW (channel 6 on cable and 61.1 on satellite & over-the-air) as well as ArizonaSports.com.
The club got back into the win column last Saturday following a wild 5-3 win at Portland Timbers 2. Forward Ben Spencer led all scorers with a brace while midfielder Jose Aguinaga tallied two assists and a goal. Both players were named to the USL Championship Team of the Week for their performances. Kevon Lambert and Junior Flemmings each added a goal.
Flemmings’ goal, his 15th of the season, also helped set a new USL Championship record. Teammates Solomon Asante, Adam Jahn, and Flemmings became the first-ever trio of teammates to score 15 goals each in a single season.
The match was the final road trip of the year for Phoenix Rising as the club earned home-field advantage throughout the USL Playoffs after clinching the USL Regular Season Title. With the road win in Portland, the club finished the season with an 11-3-3 record on the road, setting a club record for most road wins in a season.
Real Monarchs are coming into the match off a quick turnaround. The club shutout Orange County SC 2-0 on Wednesday, benefitting from an own goal in the 73rd minute before an 83rd-minute Maikel Chang goal iced the match. With a playoff spot already locked, the Monarchs are now battling for a guaranteed first-round home match. They are currently 4th in the table with 49 points (the final spot for a guaranteed first-round playoff match) but four other clubs are within two points of them.
This will be the final match of the season series between the two clubs. Phoenix Rising took the first match of the series back on May 25th, a 4-2 win. In that match, Rising FC went down two goals before roaring back with four unanswered tallies.
This weekend’s match is Seltzer Saturday where fans can purchase $2 Natural Light Seltzers all night long. The club is also giving away pink breast health awareness Phoenix Rising t-shirts courtesy of Simon Med Imaging to the first 2,000 fans who arrive. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
