PHOENIX (December 4, 2018) — Phoenix Rising Football Club announced today that midfielder Alessandro Riggi has re-signed for the 2019 season. Per club policy, the details of the contract will not be made public.
Riggi first signed with the club on February 10, 2017. In 2018, Riggi was limited to 342 minutes in 14 appearances due to a lower-body injury that cost him the latter half of the 2018 campaign. Despite his limited time on the field, Riggi tallied five assists, good for second on the team, and two goals. In Week 9, Riggi was named to the USL Team of the Week.
“I am happy to be back with the best club in the USL.," Riggi said. "Together as a club, we will bring the cup home in 2019.”
In 2017, Riggi played 1,218 minutes in 21 appearances. He finished second on the team with five assists and scored four goals.
Riggi’s career began in 2010 when he joined the Montreal Impact organization as a 15-year old in its youth academy. Upon turning 18, he went overseas to Europe where he spent time with Italian side Sampdoria, Spanish side Celta Vigo, and Portuguese side Atletico S.C.
He returned to North America in 2015 with USL side FC Montreal. In the club’s inaugural season, Riggi led the team in goals (9) and points (20). He followed his impressive rookie season with six goals and 13 points in 2016, both second-best on the team.
With the addition of Riggi, Phoenix Rising’s roster now stands at ten players for the 2019 season.
