(PHOENIX) October 10, 2017 – Phoenix Rising FC forward Jason Johnson was named to the United Soccer League Team of the Week for Week 29. This is the 14th time a Phoenix Rising FC player has been named to the team of the week this season and the third time Johnson has received the honor. He was named to the Team of the Week for Weeks 10 and 17. He was also the Player of the Week in Week 17.
This is the seventh consecutive week a Phoenix Rising FC player has been recognized by the league with a Team of the Week or Team of the Week Honorable Mention honor.
Forward Didier Drogba was a Team of the Week Honorable Mention.
Johnson scored both game-winning goals for Phoenix Rising FC in matches against Tulsa Roughnecks FC and Rio Grande Valley FC this past week. He scored a total of three goals.
Drogba scored two goals in Phoenix Rising FC's win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC and his free kick against Rio Grand Valley FC was so difficult to handle that the ball bounced off the goalkeeper's hands and rolled into the net. Opta stats ruled it an own goal.
Phoenix Rising FC returns home this Saturday for its final home match of the 2017 season at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. THe club faces off with Portland Timbers FC 2 with kick off at 7:30 p.m.
The club is officially calling the match a blackout. All fans are encouraged to wear black to the match and the first 3,000 fans will receive black Phoenix Rising FC t-shirts from Arizona Federal. Fans can purchase tickets by going to www.www.phxrisingfc.com.
