Racing Louisville’s USL W League team scored seven goals in the team’s final home game of the season, defeating St. Charles FC, 7-0, on Saturday at Lynn Family Sports Vision & Training Center.
Louisville’s record now stands at 6-1-1 on the nation’s premier pre-professional women’s soccer circuit, with its 19 points good for second in the Valley Division, three points behind Indy Eleven but with a game in hand.
Makayla DeMelo, sister to Racing first-team star and United States Women’s National Team midfielder Savannah DeMelo, opened the scoring in the 38th minute, converting a pass from Betsy Huckaby.
Defender Allie George scored Racing’s second goal of the night just before halftime off a rebound from a corner kick.
Louisville netted five goals in the second half, including scores from Caiya Hanks (55th minute), Shae Murison (57th and 72nd minutes), DeMelo (59th minute) and Savina Zamborini (62nd minute).
The win tightened the race for the USL W League playoffs, which kick off in July. The first-place finisher from the Valley Division will advance to the knockout tournament, and Indy Eleven currently holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against Racing, having gone 1-0-1 against its rival this summer. But Racing has one more game left than Indy.
With a roster comprised of college standouts and Racing youth academy talents, the club is eight games through a 10-match W League campaign.
Next up, Louisville will restart its previously suspended road match against St. Charles FC at 1 p.m. ET Monday at Lutheran High School in St. Peters, Missouri. The match started this past Sunday but was suspended in the first half due to inclement weather. Monday’s match will just be a fresh start and new game.
