Clothing Drive August 17

The Richmond Kickers need YOUR HELP to stuff the clothing closets of Richmond City Elementary Schools!  

Partnering with CommunitiesinSchools.org, fans who donate an item to the clothing drive will receive a raffle ticket for a Kickers Swag Bag – valued at $100! As a BONUS, fans will also receive an extra entry into the used car give-away courtesy of WTVR CBS 6. 

Requested items:
  • Leggings- (in sizes between youth extra small and youth large (size 5-12))
  • Unisex Pants (youth extra small-youth large (sizes 4-12)). This includes sweatpants and other elastic waisted stretch pants
  • Underwear (size 4-10)
  • Unisex Socks (youth extra small-youth medium (size 4-8)).

Star Wars Night at City Stadium Saturday

May the force be with you this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. when the Kickers host Star Wars night and Lansing Ignite FC. The Kickers players will come out for warm ups wearing limited edition Star Wars pregame jerseys, which will be auctioned off at City Stadium and all of the proceeds will go to benefit Sportable. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. when the gates open with drink specials for the first 30 minutes on craft beer, plus wine from New Kent Winery and live music from Fennario. Then, get loud with the Red Army when the Kickers take on Lansing for the third and final meeting of the season at 7:00 p.m.
 
Any fans that come out in a Star Wars costume will get tickets for just $10 at the gates, plus a special on drinks inside the stadium. 
 
After the match, join the Kickers players, coaches and staff at Bingo Beer Co., located at 2900 W Broad St, Richmond, VA 23230 for the Official Post Game Party. Enjoy food and drink specials while mingling with the players.

Kickers K-9 Night This Saturday

This Saturday is Kickers K-9 Night presented by Impawsible Pups at City Stadium. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. when the gates open with free dog bowls for the first 150 dogs courtesy of Impawsible Pups, drink specials for the first 30 minutes with craft beer on tap, plus wine, several food vendors, bounce houses for kids, new “Target Practice” shooting area and live music from the Dirty Runaways. Then, join the Red Army when the Kickers battle Chattanooga for this first time this season at 7:00 p.m.

Runners in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K can get tickets for just $9 using promo code 10K19.

LANSING, Mi. — (Saturday, April 13, 2019) — The Richmond Kickers (0-2-1) fell on the road Saturday night against Lansing Ignite FC (2-1-0) at Cooley Law School Stadium. Going into halftime scoreless, Lansing scored two minutes into the second half through Nick Moon. Alex Bruce doubled the lead for Lansing in the 55th minute. Dennis Chin made his debut in the second half and pulled a goal back for Richmond in the 67th minute. LIFC responded three minutes later as Grant Stoneman scored the third and final goal of the night. 

Three minutes into the match, Lansing had the first chance on goal. Xavier Gomez won the ball in the midfield, then fed the ball up for Alex Bruce. He turned and went for goal as Akira Fitzgerald made the easy stop.

Joe Gallardo won a free kick for the Kickers in the 10th minute. After making a run up the left side, Gallardo was tripped up on the edge of the Lansing box by Kyle Carr. He stood over the free kick and looked to sneak a shot in the near post as Michael Kirk was there to make the stop.

Lansing had a chance to go ahead in the 24th minute through Alex Bruce again. Rhys Williams found a way to get to the end line on the right side, getting enough space to whip in a cross. Bruce was there at the near post to get the shot off, putting it wide of the Richmond goal.

Richmond would be reduced to ten men in the 34th minute after Maxi Rodriguez picked up his second yellow of the match. The captain was issued his first yellow in the 27th minute after a hard challenge in the Lansing end of the pitch. The referee whistled him for his second yellow following a second hard challenge, instead showing Rodriguez his second yellow. 

The home side took the lead two minutes into the second half through Nick Moon. Christian Silva controlled the ball for Lansing and pushed the ball out wide on the left for Moon. He quickly cut inside across the top of the Richmond box, finding the space to get a shot off and passed a leaping Akira Fitzgerald. 

Lansing would go up 2-0 in the 55th minute through Alex Bruce. Rhys Williams received the ball on the right wing. He beat Scott Thomsen to whip in a cross for Bruce, who was making a far post run and just needed the tap in for the second goal of the match. 

Richmond would get a goal back in the 70th minute from Dennis Chin, making his debut for the Kickers. Eli Lockaby flicked on a pass from Wahab Ackwei. Lockaby fought to get back the ball as Kirk knocked it away, right into the path of Chin to chip in for his first goal of the season. 

Grant Stoneman responded three minutes later to restore the two goal lead for Lansing. Off an LIFC corner kick, Dennis Chin was able to get a header on the ball trying to clear it out. Instead the ball fell to the feet of Stoneman, who took a touch to his right to get enough space for putting his shot across the face of goal for the third of the night for Lansing.  

The Kickers are back on the road next Saturday night as they make the trip south to take on Greenville Triumph FC at Legacy Early College. Kickoff for that match is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be shown live on WTVR CBS 6.3 and online through ESPN+. Stay up to date with the Kickers at www.richmondkickers.com.

College Night at City Stadium Saturday!

The Kickers are back in action at City Stadium this Saturday night as they host South Georgia Tormenta FC for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. The party starts when the gates open at 3:30 p.m. with drink specials until 4:00 p.m. and live music from the Hit List! Join the Red Army and get loud when the Kickers take the field at 5:00 p.m. to take on Tormenta FC. 

Murals Add More Color to City Stadium

Three local artists, who are former and current VCU students, have completed murals to add life and color to City Stadium’s bathroom exteriors near the west side’s main entranceway!

Julia painted the large side facing the field inside City Stadium. She has her BFA from VCU Arts and maintains a studio in Richmond.

Rachel will be graduating with her BFA from VCU Arts this Spring.

Will attends VCU and will graduate in the Spring of 2020 with BA in Philosophy.

Kickers Launch New Mobile App

RICHMOND, Va. – (Tuesday, April 2, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers have launched a new app in partnership with FanThreeSixty and the USL, available now in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. 
 
“Strengthening community connections, communicating our many advancements, and connecting our expanding fan base in real time to each other and with our team will greatly benefit from the new App,” said Matt Spear, President of Richmond Kickers Pro Soccer. “It will become our club’s center for announcements, ticketing, social media and more. A mobile app accelerates approachability, develops more relationships, elevates team insights, and generates 24/7 interaction.”
 
With fan experience as a center of the club’s mission and ambition, the new App will open up new and more interactive channels.
 
“As a league, we’re thrilled about the opportunity to work with the Richmond Kickers and their fans on this innovative new fan experience platform,” commented Vincent Wiskowski, the USL’s Director of Digital Projects and Emerging Technology. “We’re focused on ensuring our clubs have what they need to provide an engaging two-way connection between club and supporters, and the launch of the Kickers app represents a natural progression on this front. Features extend beyond team announcements, roster/player insights, schedule, ticketing, merchandise, and stadium information. One example is the Matchday Fan Cam allowing fans to take photos featuring several Kickers filters to share on social media. Plus, in game pushes will include timely updates such as starting line-ups, video highlights, game photos and fan polls.

Kickers Announce City Stadium Upgrades

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, March 29, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers launch their 27th season this weekend at City Stadium, featuring new upgrades and hospitality areas in the nearly century old stadium. 

Some of the new improvements to City Stadium include:

  • Completely Renovated Home Locker Room
  • New Crushed Stone Parking Lot
  • Reconstructed Main Ticket Entranceway
  • New Fencing along the Front Entrance 
  • Added Second Entranceway
  • New Red Army Tailgate Location
  • New Party Deck behind the goal on the south endline
  • New Ledge Box seating 
  • New International Style Goals
  • Murals added to the exterior of the bathrooms – by local artists Julia Stewart, Rachel Grant, and Will Davenport
  • Solar Panels added, along with a Solar Flower to charge devices from Sigora Solar
  • New Stall Dividers in Women’s Bathrooms
  • Sports Video Recording and Analysis Equipment provided by Spiideo
  • New Team Benches coming soon

“This is my third year managing the Stadium and I am thrilled about the new improvements and investment,” said Scott McGuire, Stadium General Manager. “From what I know, these are the first major upgrades to City Stadium since the mid 1990’s. We want City Stadium to be a singular venue for Carytown and RVA to host pro soccer and other community gatherings such as RVA Field Day, Sunday Farmer’s Markets, running clubs, festivals, corporate family days and much more.”

The Kickers would like to thank E.J. Wade Construction, HKS Architects and Draper Aden Associates for all of the work they have put into making the improvements at City Stadium.

“When we started in January to embark on the next chapter for this storied pro soccer franchise, we aimed to look at the venue with fresh perspectives,” added Matt Spear, Kickers Pro Team President. “City Stadium is 90 years young, so it’s craving love and ripe for upgrades.
