TAMPA, Fla. – (Friday, June 5, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce its Board of Governors voted Friday in favor of framework for returning to play in 2020, with a provisional start date set for July 18. While additional information on competition format, scheduling, broadcast and other important details will be made available in the coming weeks, it’s important to note that the league’s return to play will be conducted in strict alignment with all local and state public health guidelines. USL HQ also remains in regular dialogue with the USL Players Association on all matters concerning player health and wellness protocols and looks forward to continuing those discussions.
“We are thrilled for our fans, players, coaches, staff, partners and RVA,” said Matt Spear, Kickers President. “It’s a strong, important commitment by USL League One to deliver pro soccer at a time when sports are a wonderful connector bringing people together around civic pride and joy.”

This week’s Déjà Roo will look at the 2009 USL-2 Championship match that featured the Kickers hosting the Charlotte Eagles at City Stadium back on August 29, 2009. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into halftime, before three second half goals for the Kickers saw Richmond claim it’s second trophy in four years.
During the match, Kickers Manager of Digital Content, Nathan Heintschel will be joined by Kickers Legends midfielder Mike Burke and goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale. Now a Technical Director for the Richmond Kickers Youth Club, Burke holds the franchise record with 61 assists. The perennial fan favorite amassed nearly 18,000 minutes in a Richmond Kickers uniform over 11 seasons and garnered Supporter’s Choice MVP honors on six consecutive occasions before retiring from professional soccer in 2012. A long-time veteran of the Kickers, Pascale made a club-record 304 appearances over 13 seasons in Richmond between 2000-12. The North Salem, N.Y. native also leads the club with 97 shutouts.
