Tampa Bay and Orlando have not met in a competitive match since 2014, when the Rowdies fell 4-1 to their in-state rivals away from home in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup. The Rowdies entered this year’s Open Cup at Al Lang Stadium with a thorough 6-0 victory over USL League Two’s The Villages SC in the Second Round of the competition.
The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing sporting competition in the country. A winner had been crowned for 106 straight years until the single-elimination tournament was forced to cancel the competition in 2020 and 2021 due to the global COVID pandemic. The Open Cup is open to both professional and amateur teams at all levels of American soccer. Tampa Bay has a record of 7 wins and 9 losses in the Open Cup since the club first started competing in the competition in 2010. The club’s deepest run in the Open Cup came in 2013, as the Rowdies reached the Fourth Round after a memorable Third-Round victory over four-time Open Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC at Al Lang.
Before the Rowdies square off with Orlando in the Open Cup, they have a critical home match vs FC Tulsa this Saturday at Al Lang Stadium. Tickets for the match can be purchased by clicking here or by calling the Rowdies ticket office at 727-222-2000.
