Republic FC is fresh off a 5-1 exhibition win over Oakland Roots SC last Saturday in Sacramento.

Most recently, Sacramento signed 2020 MLS Cup winner Fatai Alashe who joins a midfield unit that was also joined this offseason by former San Jose midfielder Felipe Luis, Jamaican winger Maalique Foster, former MLS SuperDraft selection Tucker Bone and proven Finnish playmaker Pete Pennanen.

The squad also signed versatile fullback Duke Lacroix who spent 2020 as a regular in Charlotte Independence’s starting eleven, as well as tow-time Golden Glove goalkeeper Tomas Gomez after he played for Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC last season.

Monarchs also signed forward and 2021 MLS SuperDraft pick Aris Briggs, striker Max Mata who recently competed in Switzerland’s second tier, Ecuadorian midfielder and former Chelsea and Barcelona academy product Josimar Quintero, versatile and experienced USL veteran Malik Johnson and defender Kyle Adams who has over 60 Championship matches under his belt.

But SRFC was up to the challenge, and despite falling behind 2-0 a resilient Sacramento side stormed back and earned a stunning 3-2 come-from-behind victory to close out the 2020 preseason on February 29.
