Today, USL Championship announced that Republic FC goalkeeper has been nominated for the Fans’ Choice Save of the Week for Week 28. Voting is open now through 9:00 a.m. PT on Friday, September 20 at USLChampionship.com.
With time ticking down, Vitiello kept his club’s clean sheet intact. Phoenix Rising FC continued to push numbers forward and with seven players in the box, Jearl Margaritha intercepted a clearance at the top of the 18 before crossing the ball to Pape Mar Boye at the back post. Mar Boye managed to get a head on the ball, but Vitiello came all the way across the goal to make a leaping effort that pushed the ball away from danger.
Vitiello finished the night with three saves and recorded his 12th clean sheet of the regular season, tying his career high. It was his 50th career clean sheet across all competitions.
This is Danny’s ninth Save of the Week nomination of the year. He leads the league with six wins, including four straight from May to June.
Saturday’s win helped Republic FC gain ground on first-place New Mexico United ahead of their first head-to-head matchup this week. Kickoff from Albuquerque, New Mexico is set for 6:00 p.m. PT and the match will be broadcast live on Antenna TV 40.2, as well as streaming on FOX40.com and ESPN+.
