TULSA, Okla. (October 5, 2019) — Thomas Enevoldsen found the back of the net for the third straight game and Cameron Iwasa scored his 14th goal of the season as the Indomitable Club climb back into contention for hosting a postseason match following Saturday night’s 3-2 win over Tulsa Roughnecks FC at ONEOK Field.

Simon Elliott’s men are now unbeaten on the road in their last three straight games (2-0-1) and when it comes to the all-time series against Roughnecks FC, Sacramento is a flawless five wins from five trips. SRFC has also outscored the opposition 16 to 5 all-time in the Sooner State. 

It was all Republic FC to start the match and the visitors would find their breakthrough by way of a Villyan Bijev strike in the 13th minute. The Bulgarian-born winger punished the Roughnecks from close range after Tulsa defender Cyprian Hedrick misjudged a Dekel Keinan longball that Bijev chested down and cooly slotted past goalkeeper Sean Lewis. 

The Indomitable Club took a 2-0 lead when winger Sam Werner picked out midfielder Drew Skundrich who drove his first touch across the top of the box. Iwasa’s well-played dummy run allowed Enevoldsen to slam a right-footed effort into the back of the net and double SRFC’s lead. 

The hosts cut Republic FC’s lead in half off of a set piece when Rodrigo da Costa set up a Marlon header in the 31st minute. Tulsa tied the match in the 40th minute when da Costa dished out his team-leading 13th assist of the season to Janu Silva.

The boys in Old Glory Red reclaimed the lead in the 59th minute when a poor clearance from the Roughnecks FC defense made its way to an open Enevoldsen outside the top of the box. The Danish striker directed a header towards the far post that snuck through the entire defense and found an open Iwasa who tapped his shot by the Tulsa goalkeeper for the game-winner. 

Prior to Saturday’s regular season finale, Republic FC will host FC Juarez of Mexico’s Liga MX in an international friendly match this Wednesday, October 9 at Papa Murphy’s Park. 

The Indomitable Club will then return to league play on Saturday, October 12 when Orange County visit Papa Murphy’s Park for SRFC’s final regular season home game. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

The result moves Simon Elliott’s men into sixth place with 45 points from 31 games and are still very much in the conversation for the fourth and final playoff-hosting seed. 

The boys in Old Glory Red struck first in the 20th minute when midfielder Keven Aleman outmuscled a Los Dos defender for possession and surged upfield with the ball before trying to pick out Thomas Enevoldsen. Galaxy II defender Tomas Hilliard-Arce got a touch on Aleman’s pass but the Los Dos captain nudged the ball directly into the path of the Danish striker who tucked his curling effort from distance just inside the far post with his first touch. The goal was Enevoldsen’s seventh score in nine games with SRFC. 

The visitors would equalize in the 37th minute through Ethan Zubak after a well-struck right-footed effort from Justin Fiddes was saved by a diving Bobby Shuttleworth. The stellar save happened to fall directly to a wide open Zubak who buried his close-range shot. 

In the 72nd minute, Los Dos took a 2-1 lead when LA midfielder Jose Hernandez’s misfired shot rolled directly to the feet of Mohammed Kamara who slammed his shot into the roof of the net. 

Down by one and in the 89th minute, Republic FC continued pushing forward and were rewarded handsomely by way of a Matt Mahoney header. Enevoldsen whipped in a right-footed cross that Mitchell Taintor nodded back across the face of goal. A diving Mahoney met Taintor’s header with a header of his own and powered it past the LA goalkeeper to level the score 2-2. 

A pair of red cards were handed out to Taintor and LA’s Augustine Williams deep into extra time after the SRFC defender made a diving tackle to prevent a Los Dos breakaway.

Despite the loss, the boys in Old Glory Red still control their own destiny when it comes to hosting a first-round playoff game come late-October. If the team wins their remaining four regular season games, Republic FC is a lock for at least fourth place and a playoff-hosting seed. 

The Indomitable Club struck first with a 14th minute goal from Thomas Enevoldsen, only four minutes after play resumed following the delay. Midfielder Jaime Villarreal picked out Stefano Bonomo on the left side of the box who directed his header back across goal. Defender Matt Mahoney nodded Bonomo’s header on frame before Enevoldsen tapped it home. The goal was the Danish strikers sixth with the club since joining in August. 

El Paso leveled the score in the 48th minute when Bryam Rebellon rifled a left-footed effort into the back of the net. A loose ball fell to the Locomotive FC defender who happened to be in the right place at the right time. 

The visitors took the lead in injury time when substitute Josue Gomez scored in the 91st minute. 

The result leaves Sacramento in sixth place with 44 points from 30 matches. SRFC still boasts the third-best defense in the Western Conference, having only surrendered 33 goals all season.

The result keeps Sacramento firmly in control of fifth place in the Western Conference with 44 points from 29 matches, only one point off the fourth and final playoff-hosting spot. 

Simon Elliott’s men have now registered a dozen clean sheets in league play this season (T-4th in USL) and 14 in all competitions. This was goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth’s third shutout with the club since joining from Minnesota United FC in August. 

Though the Indomitable Club couldn’t break the deadlock, the visitors produced a collection of goal scoring chances and outshot OKC 21 to 6. 

The first opportunity came from defender Juan Barahona who fired an attempt on target but a diving save from Energy FC’s Cody Laurendi prevented the boys in Old Glory Red from taking an early lead in the sixth minute. First half headers from Thomas Enevoldsen and Drew Skundrich were also denied by the OKC goalkeeper who finished the match with seven saves. 

A left-footed effort from Villyan Bijev in the 63rd minute also couldn’t beat the league leader in saves this season, leaving the game locked at nil-nil. By holding the hosts to a goose egg, the boys in Old Glory Red currently boasts the third-best defense in the Western Conference, having only surrendered 31 goals all season.

Simon Elliott’s men have now registered a dozen clean sheets in league play this season (T-4th in USL) and 14 in all competitions. This was goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth’s third shutout with the club since joining from Minnesota United FC in August. 

Though the Indomitable Club couldn’t break the deadlock, the visitors produced a collection of goal scoring chances and outshot OKC 21 to 6. 

The first opportunity came from defender Juan Barahona who fired an attempt on target but a diving save from Energy FC’s Cody Laurendi prevented the boys in Old Glory Red from taking an early lead in the sixth minute. First half headers from Thomas Enevoldsen and Drew Skundrich were also denied by the OKC goalkeeper who finished the match with seven saves. 

A left-footed effort from Villyan Bijev in the 63rd minute also couldn’t beat the league leader in saves this season, leaving the game locked at nil-nil. By holding the hosts to a goose egg, the boys in Old Glory Red currently boasts the third-best defense in the Western Conference, having only surrendered 31 goals all season. 

Republic FC will look to continue their push for a playoff-hosting seed when El Paso Locomotive FC visits Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday, September 28. Kickoff for Noche Latina is set for 7:30 p.m. PT.

Rio Grande Valley FC managed to strike first in the fifth minute when Nico Lemoine’s close range shot gave the visitors an early lead.

Republic FC equalized in the 18th minute after Charalampos Chantzopoulos weaved a through ball between multiple RGVFC defenders to find Sam Werner in space. The former Stanford Cardinal, in a full sprint, tucked his right footed shot inside the far post to level the score.

The visitors opened the score in the 23rd minute when Drew Skundrich picked out Iwasa at the top of the box who held up the ball before finding an open Thomas Enevoldsen at the far post. The Danish striker calmly nestled his left-footed shot on his first touch to give Republic FC the early lead. The assist was Iwasa’s 16th in Old Glory Red and tied him with Danny Barrera for the all-time club record.  

Republic FC doubled their lead in the 31st minute when midfielder Dariusz Formella netted his first career goal with the club in his second career start since joining the team in mid-July. Right back Jordan McCrary whipped in a low cross from the right flank that managed to make its way across the face of goal to an unmarked Formella who squared home an easy goal to give his side a 2-0 lead. The assist was McCrary’s second in as many matches. 

Austin responded two minutes later and cut the deficit in half when former Dynamo Kiev striker Kleber nodded home a header at the back post.

With the win, Simon Elliott’s men climbed up to sixth place in the Western Conference standings with 37 points from 26 matches. Republic FC is now just three points behind fourth-placed Austin Bold FC with a game in hand. The Indomitable Club will have a chance to gain ground on the Texan side as Austin is their opponent on Wednesday night.

Thomas Enevoldsen opened the scoring in the 13th minute after calmly brushing home a Jordan McCrary cross to put the home side again. McCrary surged down the right flank with possession before firing a right-footed ball into the box that found a wide open Enevoldsen directly in front of goal.

The Danish striker was involved again as Republic FC doubled their lead on the cusp of halftime. Enevoldsen slid a pass between two Tacoma defenders at the top of the box to Cameron Iwasa who rifled a left-footed shot on his first touch towards the far corner to beat the Tacoma goalkeeper.

Carson, Calif. (August 31, 2019) — Kai Koreniuk’s first-half goal was the deciding factor as Republic FC fell to LA Galaxy II for the first time ever at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday night.

Los Dos had the bulk of the early opportunities and would have scored in the 13th minute if not for a goal-line save from Jordan McCrary to keep the match level. 

The lone goal of the match came in the 21st minute when Koreniuk and Emil Cuello combined at the edge of the Republic FC box. LA’s leading goal-scorer played a give-and-go with Cuello before burying his shot on the first touch to give his side a 1-0 lead. 

Republic FC pushed forward searching for the equalizer and Hayden Partain narrowly missed the mark from a long-range effort in the 32nd minute. Eight minutes later, Cameron Iwasa pushed a header just over the bar that kept the game 1-0 heading into the break.

Four minutes into the second half, Thomas Enevoldsen connected with a left-footed shot from outside the box that forced Los Dos goalkeeper Eric Lopez into a diving save. The rebound fell to Iwasa’s foot who fired his one-timer directly into the hands of Lopez for a double save that preserved the LA Galaxy II’s one-goal lead. 

Los Dos had multiple chances to double their lead, but Bobby Shuttleworth did everything possible to keep his side in the match. Republic FC pushed forward searching for the equalizer and Hayden Partain narrowly missed the mark from a long-range effort in the 32nd minute. Eight minutes later, Cameron Iwasa pushed a header just over the bar that kept the game 1-0 heading into the break.

(August 17, 2019) — Cameron Iwasa netted a goal and provided an assist on the evening he tied the all-time club record in appearances (104), while Thomas Enevoldsen scored a brace on his debut to lead Republic FC to a 4-0 win over Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Iwasa, who made his 104th career appearance for the Indomitable Club, is now tied with Emrah Klimenta and will likely pass the former Republic FC defender following the next match.

After a back-and-forth opening ten minutes, the Republic FC offense ignited. Jaime Villarreal played a give-and-go to Keven Aleman who delicately returned a perfectly weighted ball back to a sprinting Villarreal. The former LA Galaxy midfielder, while barreling through the heart of the Switchbacks backline, collected the ball at his feet and tucked his shot inside the far post for a first-half SRFC lead. 

In the second half, the boys in Old Glory Red picked up where they left off. Hayden Partain hit a free kick from outside the box in the 49th minute that dipped towards the bottom left corner before goalkeeper Abraham Rodriguez made a magnificent diving save. Just over five minutes later, Partain’s long range effort from a dead ball free kick was just wide of the target by a few inches. 

Republic FC would finally double its lead in the 57th minute when Juan Barahona rifled a cross in from the far left wing that found the feet of Iwasa. The Sacramento native kept his composure under heavy defensive pressure and picked out newcomer Enevoldsen sprinting into space. The Danish striker, who was making his debut after joining the club this week, capitalized on his opportunity by firing a low, left footed shot past Rodriguez for his first career Republic FC goal. 

Enevoldsen doubled his tally only three minutes later following a poorly played clearance from the Switchbacks goalkeeper. Rodriguez attempted to clear the ball into the center of the pitch and directly to the foot of Enevoldsen who punished the Colorado Springs keeper with a shot that slipped right through Rodriguez’s hands and slowly trickled into the back of the net. 

Fifteen minutes later, Sacramento’s all-time leading goal scorer notched his 11th goal of the season off a sublime team play. Enevoldsen, from virtually midfield, saw a surging Aleman headed straight for the box and delivered an ideal lob pass to the Republic FC midfielder. Aleman shouldered the ball and without it landing on the pitch, flicked a perfect pass on to Iwasa who with volleyed the ball into the top right corner to make it 4-0 and issue the final blow.  

Goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth, also making his debut for Republic FC on the night, kept the clean sheet alive with four saves, including a massive save in the 86th minute to preserve the shutout. Republic FC has now matched its clean sheet tally from all of last season (12) with 11 matches to play.

The boys in Old Glory Red managed to carve out a number of decent chances, but couldn’t quite find the finishing touches. Defensively, however, there were positives to take away as Republic FC recorded their fourth shutout from their past seven games.

SRFC’s first real chance came in the 22nd minute when a trio of headers ricocheted from Sam Werner to Stefano Bonomo and lastly to Cameron Iwasa whose final touch went directly into the hands of the former Republic FC keeper Thomas Olsen. 

Ten minutes later, Iwasa had his second scoring chance of the half after receiving a perfectly weighted through ball from Jaime Villarreal, but his shot was saved by a diving Olsen.

In the 80th minute, defender Juan Barahona whipped in a cross from the far left flank that found an open Werner who pushed his header just over the crossbar. 

Republic FC held the Sin City club to just a single shot on target across 90 minutes. The lone chance for Eric Wynalda’s side came in the closing moments, which a diving Rafa Diaz brushed to the side and preserved the clean sheet. The shutout was the first for Diaz this season. 

Wednesday's match also saw the debut of Polish playmaker and new Republic FC signing Dariusz Formella who entered the match in the 77th minute and looked bright during his time on the pitch.
