Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler are being recognized for thwarting a terrorist attack on August 21, on a train heading from Amsterdam to Paris. All three were awarded the Legion of Honor from French President Francois Hollande for their bravery. In addition to recognizing the actions of these young men, there will also be a special commemoration for victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the service personnel that responded.

After back-to-back draws, Sacramento Republic FC are focusing on taking better advantage of the offensive opportunities they are given in matches. With playoffs looming and Republic FC sitting just one point out of a playoff position, patience on the pitch and scoring more goals per match is crucial for Republic FC in their five remaining regular season matches.

“It’s a real learning lesson for us,” said Head Coach and Technical Director Paul Buckle following Republic FC’s 1-1 draw against Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, August 22. “Teams when they’re a goal up or even drawn up, they just kill the game for us … We had the opportunity (against Real Monarchs) and we didn’t take it.”

With a current record of 10-8-5 and five remaining matches, Republic FC already has one more draw and loss than their overall record in 2014 (17-7-4), but is in a place to comfortably qualify for playoffs. While Republic FC is currently in 7th place in the Western Conference with 35 points, they can still earn a maximum of 50 points, which should they earn all their points, would lock in a playoff spot.

However, regardless of USL standings and playoff possibilities, the key focus for Republic FC in training will be taking better advantage of opportunities to score in addition to being more patient on the pitch. Despite usually controlling the pace of matches and scoring first in the their past two matches, Republic FC have often found themselves only salvaging a draw.

“We just need to learn to make the match last,” said Buckle. “We’ve got to find goals from the front line and find goals from the midfield…that’s what we’ve got to do. We’ve got to show our fighting spirit.”

Key parts of training for Republic FC will be focusing on holding out against their opponents patience and game management, noted Buckle after Saturday’s match.

“You have to manage the game for 90 minutes,” said Buckle, who noted he was impressed that the team looked more patient and confidant on the ball on Saturday, than previous matches. “We’ve got a few days ahead of us and it’s important now that we dig in and mustn’t be too hard on ourselves.”

Set pieces are one area Republic FC hope to address and turn into more effective opportunities on the attack. Of Republic FC’s 35 USL goals, only six of them have come directly from set pieces.

Republic FC is third overall in the USL with 128 corner kicks, and second in the Western Conference behind Tulsa Roughnecks FC’s 138. Despite dominating their opponents 128 to 73 on corners, and averaging 5.57 corners per match, Republic FC have yet to score a single goal off a corner kick this season.

Republic FC also hopes to improve on taking better advantage on free kicks and penalties. This season, Republic FC has only drawn three penalties, converting two of them. In comparison, the league leader in penalties, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC have scored eight out of eight penalties.

Additionally, Republic FC has scored just four goals from direct or indirect free kicks, a number the team will be working on improving.

“We just need to be a little more patient, move the ball from the inside out, get out wide, put balls in the box, get runners in the box, said Republic FC captain Justin Braun. “That’s how the goals are going to come.”

Multiple opportunities are being created over the course of several months to garner input, ideas and feedback from fans, organizations and the public as a whole. The initial phase will focus on gathering public input on design and architectural features of the stadium. Two of these key elements are an online survey and series of public workshops.

Online Survey – The public is encouraged to complete a brief online survey designed to gather input on key stadium design concepts and choices. The survey will be available online through August 20, 2015 at https://sportsengine-staging.go-vip.net/sacrepublicfc/stadium-survey.

Small Group Workshops – Republic FC will also randomly select a subset of interested survey respondents to participate in small group workshops with Republic FC and the stadium design team. The Indomitable City was named among the nation’s top 10 cities that love craft beer the most, according to a list released this week by Marketwatch.

Sacramento ranks fifth on the list, which says 33 percent of all beer sold in the city is craft beer. Additionally, the region features approximately 40 local breweries according to The Sacramento Bee.

Sacramento Republic FC fans are certainly reflective of a top craft beer city. Related surveys conducted by Sacramento Republic FC among fans indicate that their first choice is local craft beer, followed by craft beer in general at matches.

“We’ve seen a renaissance of culture, food, beer, music and everything,” said Rubicon Brewing Co. owner Glynn Phillips. “Sacramento is becoming more of a destination. It’s been fascinating to see the change.”

Last year, Republic FC was the first-ever presenting sponsor for Sacramento Beer Week, which featured more than 600 craft beer and food events over 11 days in Sacramento.

As Coach Buckle and the boys in Old Glory Red embark on this final stretch of the season, we’ve begun the process of looking ahead. Over the course of several weeks, we conducted focus groups and surveys to evaluate what you enjoyed most about your experience as a Season Ticket Holder. You also shared with us what amenities or experiences could use some improvement. We listened and have applied this critical feedback to our planning of 2016.

Your renewal for 2016 Republic FC season tickets is now available. Deadline to renew is November 22, 2015.

2016 season ticket packages will include 15 USL regular season matches and five special matches (e.g. U.S. Open Cup or friendlies). In addition, as a Season Ticket Holder, you will receive:

• Specially designed Season Ticket Holder scarf similar in concept to what was designed by artist David Garibaldi in 2015 (separate scarf for youth and adult club seating)
• MLS priority seating (pending the club secure MLS-rights)
• Exclusive invitation to a 2016 preseason exhibition match offered only to Season Ticket Holders
•  Meet the Team Event
• 7-month payment plan option
• Opt-in for prepaid parking
• Ticketmaster Exchange program for the resale of seats
• Opt-in opportunity for 2016 USL Playoff matches including payment plan
• Ability to resell your seats through Ticketmaster Exchange
• 10% merchandise discount card

All seating locations received a small increase in pricing. We did everything possible to limit this impact on your budget. The increase includes select fees, such as a facility fee and access to the California State Fair; fees that are required of Bonney Field and passed on to other parties. Most importantly, your individual ticket price is lower than anything that will be offered on single match pricing or general public sale.

These slight price increases will also aid us in the improvement of the overall experience. Based on your feedback, we will be investing in a secondary video board, enhanced sound system, expanded offerings and activities in The Market, improved customer service and faster exit times from the Cal Expo parking lot.

Additionally, based on your feedback through focus groups, surveys, social media and direct conversations, we will be making changes to our VIP and Field Seating areas.

Some of the key issues you have brought to our attention in these sections include:

• You would prefer a reserved seat in VIP and not the first-come first-serve seating that currently exists
• The desire for a “neighborhood-type” feeling in VIP that is both social and exclusive to its members
• Food that is both consistent in quality and quantity
• Better viewpoints of both the pitch and video board to ensure you don’t miss out on the action and replays
• Additional restroom locations, especially on the VIP’s west side.

Because we are still researching and developing plans to address these issues, and determining how we can best serve you, we are not invoicing VIP and Field seats for 2016 season tickets at this time. Once we have finalized the plans to improve your VIP and/or Field Seating experience, we will share them with you by September 22. Invoices will be sent no later than October 1, 2015.

In addition, we are offering a special opportunity for anyone that chooses to pay off his or her balance early. All accounts paid in full by 11:59 p.m. on October 21, 2015 will be invited to an exclusive event for the unveiling of our 2016 kit. Attendees will be able to purchase the new kit (or jersey) before it goes on-sale to the general public. We will also guarantee ample time for our VIP and Field Seat Season Ticket Holders to take advantage of an early payment opportunity to provide access to this event.

A reminder that any unused playoff ticket funds for this year may also be rolled over and applied towards your 2016 season tickets payments. The deadline to purchase your 2015 Playoff tickets before prices increase is Friday, August 14. You will be able to claim your seats for the playoffs until August 31.
