San Antonio FC (14-4-10) will visit Tulsa Roughnecks FC (13-11-4) at ONEOK Field on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. The match will mark the second time the two clubs face each other in USL play and the third in all competitions this year.
SAFC heads into the match looking to get back in winning form after recording their first consecutive losses this season in their previous two matches, falling to Swope Park Rangers and RGV FC. The latter marked the first time the Alamo City club lost at home in over a calendar year after the team’s loss against Saint Louis FC on Sept. 10, 2016. SAFC has recorded just four losses this season, the fewest among all USL clubs.
The Roughnecks will aim to build on their win last weekend, when they defeated LA Galaxy II 1-0 at home. The club has lost just once in their previous five matches and currently sits in sixth place in the Western Conference standings as their hunt to secure a playoff berth continues. Earlier this season, the club eliminated SAFC from the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on penalties in the third round of the tournament.
The Alamo City club is currently 4-0-0 all-time against the Roughnecks in USL play, earning three wins during the Silver and Black’s inaugural season and one last June. SAFC has scored 10 goals while conceding just three against the Oklahoma club.
Earning three points on the road would be significant for SAFC as the club continues its efforts to secure a top-four playoff seed. The club is currently in fourth place in the standings, but is within three points of second place Reno 1868 FC and has a game in hand.
The match will mark the last away match for the Silver and Black during the 2017 regular season, which the club will conclude with three consecutive matches at home prior to entering their first-ever USL playoff run. The club previously sealed their position in the USL playoffs on Sept. 13 with a 1-0 win at Orange County SC.
