Fabien Garcia, Mohammed Abu Earn Spots in Starting XI, Santiago Patiño and PC Named to Bench
SAN ANTONIO (July 19, 2022) – San Antonio FC has had four player named to the USL Championship Team of the Week, the league announced today. Defender Fabien Garcia and midfielder Mohammed Abu were named to the starting XI, while midfielder PC and forward Santiago Patiño were named to the bench.
Garcia contributed to a dominant defensive effort in last week’s 5-0 shutout victory over Atlanta United 2. The defender posted four tackles and three clearances, as well as two interceptions as SAFC limited Atlanta to just one shot on target.
Garcia’s season total of 81 clearances is currently good for the fifth-most in the USL Championship.
Abu finished Saturday’s match with his third assist of the season, in addition to a strong performance in the midfield. Abu completed 86.7% of his 45 passes on the night, including 80% in Atlanta’s half of the field and six chances created.
Patiño scored twice in the 5-0 victory, giving the forward three goals in the last two matches. The brace was the second by an SAFC player this season, and was joined by Samuel Adeniran who also scored twice in the win.
PC assisted on Patiño’s first goal, and went on to connect 75% of his 40 passes on the night. The midfielder made a clearance, a tackle and an interception as well.
This is the 19th time this season that a San Antonio FC player has been named to the weekly list, with Garcia making it five times and PC making it twice, while Abu and Patiño earned the honors for the first time. The SAFC centerback trio of Garcia, Mitchell Taintor and Jasser Khmiri has accounted for 11 of the appearances this season.
SAFC is on the road this weekend, heading to El Paso Saturday for a Copa Tejas matchup with Locomotive FC. The match kicks off at 8:30 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast on ESPN+..
