Farr Made 12 Saves, Stopped Penalty in Calendar Month
SAN ANTONIO (May 12, 2022) – San Antonio FC goalkeeper Jordan Farr has been named the USL Championship Player of the Month for March, the league announced today. Farr made 12 saves as SAFC went 2-0-1 in the month.
“This one’s special because it’s so important to start the year off strong individually and then as a team. So the results have been really positive, even though we’ve been dealing with a ton of injuries,” said Farr. “I’m happy to play my part, my role. I know that some months I’m going to be called upon quite a lot, some months we’re not going to allow any shots on goal. So credit to the team for giving me the opportunities to succeed, and putting me into really good positions to make saves.”
Farr earned the league’s fan-voted Save of the Week all three weeks in March, and crucially stopped a penalty in stoppage time against Colorado Springs to preserve a 1-0 win. Farr also opened the year with a six-save performance against Oakland to start the season.
The selection is the third time Farr has been named Player of the Month, after winning in April and September of last season. Farr becomes just the third player ever to earn three Player of the Month awards, and the only keeper of the three.
“I think that’s a massive testament to the team. The fact that each of my Player of the Month awards has come with SAFC, I think I got one Team of the Week before this. And so for me it’s the team, it’s the staff showing their trust in me and allowing me to be the player I am,” Farr added. “I think Mitch Taintor alludes to this a lot where, you want to be in a place where you’re fully trusted and fully believed in and I really do feel that way with my goalkeeper coach Juan [Lamadrid] and the coaching staff as well. And honestly, everyone here at the organization.”
Farr is one of just two SAFC players to ever earn Player of the Month honors, joined by Billy Forbes in April of 2017.
SAFC heads to Kentucky this weekend for a Saturday USL Championship Final rematch with Louisville City FC. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
